As I've clearly got nothing else to do before departing for Leftpondia
(apart from selling three cages and two bikes and other assorted shit),
I now also get to retile the kitchen after a recent "fetch the big
hammer, we need to get at this boiler" incident. At least I got the old
tiles off without too much drama so far, but I noticed that in some
places, the plaster came off with the wall tiles. Not large chunks, but
some of it clearly showed more attachment to the tiles than it did to
    the wall.

Do I replaster the affected areas before sticking the new tiles on or do
I just use a somewhat more generous measure of glue?

I guess plastering over cable that's been put under the existing tiles
by means of chiseling a channel into the wall isn't such a hot idea
    either?

Depends how bad it is, but I have done this in the past over small
patches and it turned out (and lasted) ok.
Why not? Plenty of kitchens have power sockets/light switches etc. in
the tiled sections. The power has to get there somehow.

I would be inclined to replaster if it is quite deep. If shallow, I
would use more adhesive. Definitely replaster if there is a deepish
channel (and allow to dry, obviously).

Definitely don't use bonding, as it will not dry out properly (its a
favorite local trick to use bonding in damp treated areas, which will
just need knocking off and replastering in a year or so.)

It's quite deep (about 2") and the hole chopped into the plaster is
quite large, too. As I'm planning to use sheets of smaller tiles rather
than the larger tiles the PO used, it looks like I've got to replaster
unless I want to suspend the tiles in fresh air.
Nah, that would be something the PO would've used.

The majority of patches are only about 5mm deep. Guess they're glue-able
once I removed the lose plaster. Might as well skim them though if I've
    got some plaster mixed.
That's me being German - I expect cables to run in a nice conduit that's
plastered into the wall rather than pushing the cables into the hole
chopped into the existing plaster and smother them in more plaster to
    close up the hole again.

  7. Are you keeping the place, or selling it any time soon?

At the moment the plan is to keep it and rent it out.

  9. Then go for the quick/cheap option.

Unless I buy regular-size tiles instead of the sheets of small ones I
was planning to use, I'll have to fill them in properly. Given the
amount of bodgery by the PO, I do prefer to do things properly...
