Nearest I've stayed is at Riberac, about 40miles away, so prolly not
    what you're looking for. http://www.hotel-lvm.com/index.shtml was a
nice little place, with a big (public) car park at the back.

Still looks nice, but having checked the address, it's not actually
the one[1] I stayed in, which was right in the middle of Riberac
    itself.

TBH in that area you're almost tripping over hotels and B&B places.
I'm sure you'll find one much closer without any probs.

    [1] The photo looked familiar[2].
[2] It was about 15 years ago, so 'vague' is the best way to describe
    my memory of the trip.

Good stuff, keep it up (the practice and the front wheel).

Keeping it up is the problem. I can routinely get it to the point of the
best one I did at the BH but the bastard runs out of revs. I think I
need to nail it to the stop and try an up-change as it bounces off the
    limiter :)

I suspect you are waiting too long to bounce the front end... i.e. already
pretty well up the useable revs before lofting it. Try lofting it at lower
revs then you will have more to play with, also, I would be inclined to give
the gear changing while lofted a miss just yet, it can get quite tricky,
especially from 1st to 2nd (through neutral!) [1]

[1] Or you could do what I did and just have a go at whatever you think will
    make it work )

    Whinging Courier says...
You need to start in 2nd gear. Much easier to control I found on the
XR400, but don't take my advice, I lunch my bollocks into the tank on
landing cos I'm shite at wheelies.

The author used to compile a lot of the Which? guides to B&Bs and the
    like. And pubs, IIRC.

But TBH whenever I've B&B'd in France I've found it much better to
just turn up somewhere and look around - sometimes you get something
fairly ordinary, at others you can encounter some absolute gems.

  14. Mmhhmmm,

I was en route from Millau to the Ring earlier in the year and happened upon
    :

    http://www.terrasses-de-corton.com/

This just happens to fall into the "absolute gem" category, highly
recomended if your ever passing through Bourgogne.

I can't praise the place enough, wonderful food / wine / hospitality / rooms
    and price.

I am. I have discovered that just by opening the thing wide open and
    pulling away works quite nicely!
Yeah, first is ok at the mo. It's the most fun I've had in ages :D
I'll save the heroics for now.

I'm just happy to get the front off the deck for the time being.

You wanna get a proper bike, that'll loft on the throttle in second.
Second to third is comparatively snickly - then it all starts
happening a bit fast for me ;-)

    There lies the rub.

My initial worries over crashing and trashing a brand new bike will be
allayed by venturing onto the old ratter. The problem then would be the
one I initially denied by doing an easy 80mph or 90mph on the back wheel
    and thereby hurting myself!

    Hmm...

Bad form but IDSTR doing a 90mph wheelie on the R1 just after I bought
it. I didn't really know it was in the air until it landed.

    *Sigh*

I need a place and a well paid job in a Devon/Cornwallesque road type
place with a big enough storage facility to house all these bikes.

If it wasn't for the fact I'd run out of room, I'd still have the R1!
