FOAK: Vietnam

As the FOAK seems to know just about everything, I thought I'd ask here
first.

It would appear I'm off to Ho Chi Minh next month and know very little
of the culture and history apart from the Hollywood version and would
like to get a background before I go.

So, any book recommendations outside of the usual travel guide culprits?

I've been sidetracked by a Chinese girl so I've put a hold on my one way
ticket to Vietnam ;-) .

Be careful, even an avowed aficionado of large breasted women can be
converted to petit asia.

 

Not all Far Eastern girls are flat chested. Thankfully.

Inspirational bit of telly that. Mostly. I'd bloody love to hack about
'nam on something like my CB for a while!

 

Thanks for the recommendations - both ordered. A mate also recommended
the former - the latter listed on Amazon in the UK for £183 was a bit
beyond my pain threshold, so ordered pre-disastered from the US.
