Someone I know is looking for such software. He wants to put a
questionnaire up on a web page so that those who complete it get a summary
of the results on screen after completing it. Anyone got any good
suggestions? Price is a factor so freeware or low-cost would be ideal.

Get WUN to write you one - he's a freelancer now you know...

    :)

seriously, it wouldn't be hard to write, you could probably get some
kid from the local college computer course to write it for a crate of
    beer.

Well it depends on complexity but he might be able to use Joomla with
something like the Modern Polls component. Joomla is free and the component
is only 15euros. He will need some hosting with MySql though.

Have you tried Wondershare QuizCreator. I'm using it to create my own
quiz and questionnaire, then put them on webpage for online testing
and surverys. the software is cheap, and you can download it for a
    free trial.
I hope it may help you too.
    more details bout it http://www.sameshow.com/quiz-creator.html

Thanks for the suggestion - but yet again, it doesn't seem to display the
results on screen for the participant to read immediately after completion.

I do used to have some experience with QuizCreaator.
Becasue the quiz is flash-based, the results can not displayed on
    screen after completion.
The alternative solution is to sent the quiz results to participants
    via emial.
I have sent this feature request to the dev team of QuizCreator, And
they said this feaure will soon be avaiable in QuizCreator 1.6.
