FOAK:Windows Defender

Any one used this product? If so, any advice you could give me on which
setting to install with greatly recommended !

I.E :-
("Use recommended settings" - ie full MS snoop mode?!, or install definition
updates only, OR "ask me later")
Can't make me mind up.....

I am tempted to go for the latter prompt as it looks like the less invasive
of all options but also retaining useful functionality ?

 

Niece uses it, we've set it to 'install definition updates only' ... that
way it's not (as if) talking to MS but it _is_ receiving updates to
counteract any new 'threats'.

We haven't played with it at all, but that seems like the best compromise, I
mean, why bother if it isn't being updated?

 

Agreed, perhaps though there may be some mechanism to perform updates in the
s/w as it seems to do this on first install anyway so its best protected?
I'll have a hunt and report back.

 

Found the post installation setting. After installation there is a "Tools -
Options" setting - "Check for updated definitions before scanning".

Agreed, if it won't remain up to date, why would you bother with it as it's
ability will be compromised with new threats.
