A friend of mine has a 2010 Yamaha cygnus scooter in Greece. He wants me to
fit an inline fuel filter for him when I visit in April. The bike has fuel
injection - can I simply cut the fuel pipe and slip in an inline fuel filter
as I would do with a carb. bike?

I've never heard of an injected bike that hasn't already got a filter,
so don't see what the point is. The usual type of inline filters aren't
designed for pressurised systems, so it might work, or the filter
element might collapse, or the casing might split. I wouldn't do it.

  3. Yes. As it's FI, I'm surprised it hasn't got a fuel filter fitted as
    standard, mind.

I struggled a bit with this when modding cars - specifically, fitting a
high-pressure Facet pump to supply Weber carbs. Paper filters would
disintegrate quite rapidly on either side of the pump, leading to
nasties. The modern 'sintered' inline filters should be OK, though.

Thanks for the replies. It might well have a filter - I'll have a look in
April. Meanwhile I think I'll have to read up on FI.
