FOAKs: Noise-cancelling earphones?

  1. I don't have any need to stop and take them out, they do that all on
    their own

After 16 years of riding bikes without earplugs, nothing seems noisy
    anymore.

I've used them for years, both for noise reduction (bike, clubs, sleeping)
and also to reduce the sudden variations in air pressure at speed, which I
seem to be a bit sensitive to.

It doesn't cause any problems. The earwax kills any bugs that the saliva hasn't.

  9. I had some Sony in-ear jobbies with noise cancellation. I thought they
were okay, until I realised that everytime I used them flying, it took
me hours to equalise on landing and got a bit hurty.

Then I bought some Bose Quiet Comfort headphones, and realised that a)
the Sonys were shit and b) the Sonys were shit.

    Bose ftw.

earwax, the miracle cure for swine flu, mrsa, cancer and the common cold.
exclusively wrapped in a bespoke man-size tissue by a government authorised
and regulated bloke down the pub.

I guess you're not being serious, but in case you are, neither saliva
nor earwax are hostile to bacterial growth. Quite the opposite, in
fact, as anyone who's ever had a mouth or ear infection would know.

OK, I actually moisten the earplug from a little bottle of Carex Aloe Vera antibacterial hand gel
which I always carry with me, as you can't be too careful these days. Happy now?

I always lick them - well more sort of stick 'em in my mouth - & have
    never had an ear infection.

Err... I was just countering Ace's implication that you will get an ear
infection, not saying that nobody ever does.

I never said you _would_ get an ear infection, just implied,
correctly, that wetting earplugs would make the chances thereof much
    higher.
