no trolling. As previously mentioned, I regard the newsgroup (and
Usenet in general) as being here for my amusement. I can post what I
    like, there are no rules.

Er ... that's what it has to be named (favicon.ico) in order to be
    recognised by browsers.

FFS. It's the same for everyone; post what you want for your own
amusement; darsy does it, I do it and you certainly do it.

If you're going to constantly harp on about how persecuted you are,
maintain contentious positions, condescend to everyone, claim to have a
superior intellect engage in every possible argument then don't be
surprised if you get a robust response to your posts.

Sure you get a harder ride than many but hey, that's life and to be fair
it's also something you're engineering for yourself either consciously
    or unconsciously.

If you *really* don't want to go on the way it is then I'd suggest that
you kill file a few of the obvious; AW, Eiron etc. and just let a few
things pass. Otherwise just get on with it and stop fucking whining.

I didn't think that existed anymore until Eiron stalked it on archive.org..
excellent. I shall redo the modern version this evening.

Of interest is the fact that there are expressions like,

nique ta mere connard ! {***} ('say hi to your mum from me')

... and that no one saw fit to comment on them. Yet suddenly this time
around, 'jokey' and deliberate mis-translations are frowned upon.

    I wonder why ...

Ooooh, that was a bloody good sci-fi book. <quick google>

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaspora_(novel)

Recommended for hard sci-fiers, not for shandy drinking light weights.

I've come to realise that the hypocritical, cliquey, phoney 'matey'
ambiance on UKRM is completely anathema to my way of thinking and that this
may well be the reason why I don't 'fit in' or indeed why I no longer have
the _slightest_ fucking desire to 'fit in'.

On the rare occasions over the past months when I _haven't_ been abused,
I've found myself sitting waiting for the abuse to start. I don't
particularly enjoy it; I don't go out of my way to court it, but it seems
to have become 'the norm' for me on UKRM.

So I suppose the only thing I can do is to stop complaining about it.
Which I shall henceforth endeavour to do.

indeed - Greg Egan's early->mid period stuff is excellent. He kinda
went off the boil with/after Teranesia, IMO.

I think Diaspora is the only one I read, I might have to pop into
Ottakars or some such and have a look about for some more.

I just finished "Do Andriods Dream Of Electric Sheep?" again, forgot how
    good that book is.

Hehe.. I don't recall being _that_ drunk. Ballistic's face comes back to
me, flushed red, and I recall leaving the pub and a crowd standing at the
door watching me and laughing hysterically..
    Quite.

  18. No. Because one had a cheapshot attack on a ukrm-er and the other
didn't, which was the point I made and which Des has decided not to
    dwell upon.

That said, the (earlier) site was/is bloody good and would merit being
    put up properly.

It would be even nicer if Timo and (say) Spete could add to it in their
respective native tongues. Though nobody would be able to pronounce
    Spete's anyway.

  20. I got my bus pass last year.

So far I have only used it to go to Beer Festivals.

When I mentioned it to my doctor he thought it was put to good use.
