Saw this guy recently at the side of the road in a bit of a mess after a
messy SVA in the gravel on a bend.
Apart from all the gravel rash his main problem appeared to be a severe face
injury resulting from falling on a tennis racquet which he had down the
front of his jacket. As he fell the end of the handle went up his helmet and
tore a big piece out of the side of his cheek along with what appeared to be
a tooth or two. It was hard to tell because he was bleeding so profusely.
Over the years I've accommodated many items down the front of may jacket as
a quick and easy way to carry things a few kilometres. Guess I was luck
    never to come off.

I bet I felt a whole lot worse than that guy the night my FULL and
unopened bottle of vodka slipped out of my jacket and disintegrated
everywhere. Felt like licking the road clean.

Sober as a judge to start with and stayed sober the whole night.

    Regards

I couldn't find the reference to a similar accident on Rotten.com.
I did find a fellow with no bottom jaw as a result of wearing an open face
helmet - is that what you are talking about? Not quite as painful as that
but this incident still made me a little shaky just looking at him. The
fellow was about 60 and there was concern that he was going to have a heart
attack when he told the ambulance officer he had chest pains. I think it
might have been from the fact that as he fell he wouldn't have been able to
bend in the middle. The other end of the racquet had to dig in somewhere to
be forced up his helmet like that.
Funny thing is if he was wearing the open faced helmet with the bubble visor
and matching self inflating parker from BigW (look at me I'm the Michelin
man) like all the other 60 year olds he might have had less injuries.

They're obviously made for keeping stuff strapped into place. The lesson to
learn is don't overstretch them, and don't mount them in such a way that they
can whip you and gouge out an eye or your throat if they break while they're
fitted or while you're putting them on or taking them off.

  18. Consider if you will the same problem only youve paid for it.
Ventura rack systems... nasty little bar just waiting to hit you in the
    spine.

Seen it happen, know the lady who can no longer walk.

Givi have the right idea - flat faced top box set up on the rear,
everything else around the side. Less chance of spinal injury.

Clever design in my opinion. Ventura - wheelchair waiting to happen.

They must be safe. Otherwise the supersport rider I saw in the support
race at the Sepang GP wouldn't have got his past scruitineering......
