Sainsburys appear to be knocking out 8 bottles of Leffe for £4.99.

  5. Blimey! That's 62p a bottle. 1.87 a litre! Still, I suppose Leffe is a
fairly special lager. Shouldn't compare it with say, San Miguel Especial
    5.4% at 93c a litre (66p). That wouldn't be a fair comparison.

    But for us pikeys...

    Bavaria is also quite a pikey 5% option from Morrison's - £4.12(ish) for 4
but as BOGOF so something like 51p per 330Ml bottle , I actually prefer it
to standard Grolsch and Stella crates which are all brewed over here
anyway?? Its quite morish for a cheapo import.

Its also quite practical to come out with 8 bottles at a time rather than
wrestling with shopping AND a 24 pack of bottles, and lets just imagine you
are struggling to do a shop with bike panniers, they certainly would fit
    more reasonably.

At least its a genuine import. The last Grolsch bottles I had tasted more
watery than usual and I won't be paying over the odds for them again.

Actually, I find that most Czech lagers are either ver' nice or at
    least drinkable and cheap.

I probably drink more Czech lager than English beer nowadays, though
this is largely because I tend to drink at home and you can't get
proper ale out of a bottle.

Or our local Kronenbourg Alsace at around 60c for a 75ml bottle,
including a 10c refundable deposit on the bottle. Only 5.3%. mind.
    Indeed.

Laithwaites do a nice one - Primator from the Nachod brewery. They often
have a promo where you get a 20 bottle case at half price with a case of
wine. Works out about 65p per half litre bottle.
You can get real ales in a bottle. At least 2 in my local Asda. One from
Youngs in London and Bluebird from Coniston. Both are bottle conditioned.

Although, many of the filtered, pasteurised and brewery conditioned ales
available from all supermarkets are perfectly drinkable now. I've just
cracked open a bottle of Shepherd Neame Whitechapel Porter (brewed
exclusively for Asda) which is very nice and only £1.18 per 500ml.

Well I know, but it just isn't the same, somehow. They do taste OK and
I do buy them occasionally, but they can't beat a well-kept cask ale
even if it's supposedly the same beer in a bottle.

Actually, that Guinness Special Export (or whatever they call it) is
    fine out of a bottle.

You'll struggle to match cask ale at home - even if you buy a cask. It all
depends on being able to sell enough to always have a barrel in top
    condition.

I try to disassociate bottled beers from their cask ale siblings. I buy
bottled beers on their own merit as a pleasant drink for home. I rarely
have a session on bottled beers at home - one or two before a couple of
glasses of wine later in the evening. This evening I think I might do a
quality check on the Warre's port that Asda are selling for a fiver...
It's okay. I prefer the canned "draught" with a widget. Incidentally, GSE
replaced the original bottled Guinness which was a real ale complete with
    sediment.
