You should try aspirin and clopidogrel.
You never know when you're going to spontaneously start bleeding,
leading to a few days in hospital.

Just don't miss the instructions though. Mine have to be taken last
thing at night, after all eating is done with. You can't eat Grapefruit
anymore either, apparently it stops these working.

Not eating grapefruit is a negative?

Have you seen the price though? £9 for 28 10mg tablets. That's even more of
a rip off than the NHS prescription charge which is way more expensive than
    the tablets are.

  5. Statins yes, Simvastatins no.

They are the cheapest available which is why they are the statin of
choice to distribute free to the over 60s.

The sided effect are more pronounced than indicated.

The feeling of weakness can be acute, joint pain can be disabling,
short term memory loss sever, and muscle cramps when you never had them
    before.

And that lot is just from a few people I know who have been taken off of
them and put on an alternative that isn't so cheap.

When I found mine was high I just cut out virtually all fat from my diet.
Despite my doctor saying diet wouldn't help, my overall cholesterol dropped
from 7.1 to 5.5 in 3 months. That was back in 2002. I did subsequently go on
statins and my cholesterol is now stable at about 4.5.

Which part is complete bollocks, O wise one ?.
The gall bladder part was told to me by none other than the consultant
who removed my gall bladder due to painfull stones, the red meat and
saturated fats part is the "usual advice".

  8. ... or not. They don't suit me *at all*. All the ones I've tried make me
feel fairly ill. And judging by what the GP says I'm far from the only
    one.
I've ended up on nicotinic acid (aka Niacin or Vitamin B3). Has a
similar cholesterol-lowering effect to statins but without some of the
unpleasant side-effects. The dosage is 1 gram/day - which is high
enough to have the lipid-lowering effect without affecting my blood
    sugar levels.

  9. Ask for nicotinic acid (niacin). Does the same job (see my previous
    post).

  12. If your reaction is bad to Simvastatins they tend to put you on Diovan
    (Valsartian).

Well I love pink grapefruit juice, but it seems to have lots of odd effects
    on medication.
