Further thinking and talking with wifey who has a better memory than I
and we think it was Benecol that said don't take both. But now, on
    Benecols website is this:

    Benecol® works with statins –
Since Benecol® acts in the gut and statins (common cholesterol
reducing medication) act in the liver. Benecol® is complimentary to
any statin medication you may be advised to take. So if you have been
prescribed statins, consult your doctor about Benecol® as it may help
you to reduce your cholesterol level further.

    So probably got it wrong.

Probably, although they do cover themselves with the 'consult your
    doctor' bit.
