    Yes, you are not alone.

After always dilligently checking for the lock I got distracted last
night talking to a mate and took off (only slowly) with the lock on.

Once fixed, I noticed the speedo wasnt working... that would be due to
the calbe sliding along on the road next to me. busted the plastic
connector joining it to the front fork.

D'oh. think I will get one of those reminder leads that hangs off your
    handlebars.

    :( :( :(

dude in our club lent his VFR to another mate from o/s for a run to
    Robertson.

They got to Robertson, he put disk lock on while he went walkies, he
came back, tried to ride off, result was bent disk, smashed fairing,
broken handlebar and lever.. and done his knee in as well, couldnt
    ride it home.

And some people still refuse to believe that motorbikes are dangerous.

You were lucky; I got a broken wrist, grumpy wife, $500 damage and an
almost ruined GP trip last time I did that!

It's amazing how much speed you can get up in one full front-wheel
rotation! Now I always put them up against the fork leg in the direction
    that I'll be moving so I can't get a run-up

    alarm..

they dont notice a 500db siren next to em, why would they notice 5db

I only ever use a disc lock if I can park the damned thing
nose-in to a wall, fence, tree, something big enough to
make it impossible to forget its there. Failing that,
I padlock the helmet to the disc ... hard to forget that
    way.

The little reminder cable does the trick. I haven't had any troubles since I
    started using it.

I got a curly orange reminder cable and a big fuckin'
red "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag hanging off mine - use
the disk lock everywhere, haven't forgotten it at all...

    ...yet.
