    ****!

So I'm faced with a fine of 40 quid, or pay back duty of £7-84. Can I
pay the back duty and re-SORN, or am I stuck with the fine?

Tell them that you posted off the payment it aaaages ago, and can't
understand why they didn't receive it?

I once posted a SORN that never got there. The DVLA said something along
the lines of "Tough luck, should've paid up, and known we'd never got it
because we'd have sent you a confirmation".

I always renew my SORNs on-line. You would think, with all these
E-gummint initiatives they could let you register to receive email
    reminders.

I guess it's the luck of the draw then because it worked for me.

I do SORNs online too. Whenever I get a reminder I do all[1] of them
together, whether they are needed or not, -and- request a posted
acknowledement. It's my little form of protest against the stupid system.

D'oh, I never thought of synchronising my SORNs. As they send email
confirmations I really don't see why they couldn't also send email
    reminders.

I dare say, with a little ingenuity plus the wonderful 'Autoit' keyboard
macro package it might be possible to knock up an automated SORNing
application. Must check next time I do it, to see if there is any
    interaction that can't be predicted.

Dunno, but I'm gonna be interested to see what they say when I try to
re-tax the Volvo when I bring back into the UK to sell later this
year. Was sorned once, back in 1999, then imported into CH, but I
still have the V5, so was considering not telling them it had ever
been exported and was needing re-importing, IYSWIM. But if they'll
then land me with 8 years worth of fines I'll go the other route.

With 5 bikes I've never sorn'd one. I throw the warning paperwork in the
bin. So far its never come back.
