Goddammit, I've seen it at least four times before, how come it still
    gets me laughing/crying?

If ever an Oscar was well deserved...

Bits of plastic with magnetic tape wound around inside. They generally
last longer than Italian cars and the tape players they have inside them.

  11. What if you want accurate history?

Schindler is good for ascending tall buildings :)

    Sentimental tripe, Schindler wins
    overblown-mawkish-embarrassment-undoes-any-good-work-done award on the
colour segment at the end and Private Ryan scores on the 'modern'
    segments both ends.

As someone else said, you want historical accuracy....

Both Speilberg, I sense a pattern.

Read a fucking history book. I mean, you'd always go to the Hollywood
for an unbiased, accurate and undramatised version of historical
    events, wouldn't you? Eh?

I was told a story which contained elemets of truth and history. I was
moved by that story. I THOUGHT about the story. And I thought about
the eveils in this world. Therefore, Spielburg succeeded in the job at
    hand.

Forrest Gump, on the other hand, which is what this original thread
was about, did none of that. It didn't even entertain me on a minimal
level. Therefore, it failed for me.

So where the **** historical accuracy came into it, I don't know.
Sounds like someone trying to be pretentious to me.

Don't worry, _some_ of us got it. All the lifts in the building(s)
    where I work are Schindlers.

You're probably right, but I don't _do_ this analysis of meaning,
value, worth etc. before deciding whether to like something or not.

You may not like the film, but the acting was superb, hence the oscar.
    FG's 'momma', actually

I've not seen it. I know I wouldn't like it.

I had a similar conversation with Angie yesterday; her: "What do you
mean you've never seen 'Jerry MacGuire' - I don't understand"...
