There is one viewpoint that says to get your rotor wing licence first.
The actual flying skills are completely orthogonal, and apparently
getting your fixed wing first means you have to unlearn a bunch
    of stuff.

  3. That's not a nice thing to say. I fear you may be adding to my
    unresolved trauma.
No I think that was you - for the entirety of that day.

At least the training you get in the UK is acceptable,
apart from the lack of motorway (ie: lane discipline)
    instruction.

In Canada, if you can drive in a mostly straight line
around the same residential circuit (so little to
no traffic), pass a very simplistic multiple-choice
test (now done with pictures in case you can't read),
and park within a metre (I'm only exaggerating a little)
of the curb they'll give you a license. It was a joke
when I passed my license at 16, and it's still a joke today.

Oh, and all training and tests are done on automatics,
but it gives you a license to drive a manual. The
bureaucracy sees no difference between the two.

Ya know, I'm kinda glad I still don't have a motorbike,
given the general level of driving ability out there.

    Champ coughed up:
Hmm, I forgot to mention the other stable girls, the jodhpurs and the
    knee length boots.

    Sorry

Though I admit even a few of the slightly larger ladies have had my
interest when dressed thus I was thinking more of the lovely young
things of the upper classes. Centuries of careful breeding innit.

    See my other reply
We look forward to them at BOSM in that case.

My recollection of serious horsey type gals is of rather toned fit young
things with slightly severe faces and thin lips. These were not the
daughters of working farmers it must be said.

Sweating horses and the attendant smell do nothing for me however.

I can't remember if you are/were a horsey sort or not? 1996 since I did
anything like that (horsey holiday in Corsica)

I have new boots so they'll likely make an appearance if they'll fit
    in the tailpack.
    am definitely anything but horsey.

they look nice in fields but i'm happy for them to stay there and
    nowhere near me.

  20. Well, I must say you were quite a considerate rider when you took
me from Marc's place to yours on the ZX-9R shortly after I arrived in the
UK in 2000, 'cos I'd made sure you knew I was a very nervous pillion. I
also don't recall anything untoward about your giving me a lift back to
New Barnet in your Mazda from some Christmas do in Botany Bay (IIRC) that
    year or the year after.
