Can we introduce dingos or hyenas into Scotland then?

I really don't see the problem. Okay, the wolves[1] will pull down the
occasional two-legged snack, but that'll only be the weak, the sick, the
stupid, the unlucky. Fell-running will become a growth sport. The rescue
helicopter will be needed less often, if there's only a few bones and scraps
    to carry out.

Hmm. I wonder how wolves would get on in the Lake District?

Minimal? not to a Rambler lost and wounded stuck out in the Elements
    overnight.

Can we have Brown Bears too.

Shepherds on the hills in all weathers. A return to traditional values. A
new, romantic image of responsibility and devotion to duty. Increased
employment. Fiscal conservatism. Grockles from the caravan park[1] fearing
to venture out on the hill. A golden renaissance of prudence and austerity
springing from ruins of post-Thatcherism. Sidecars. Hovis adverts. Flat
    caps. You mark my words.

Anyway, pets are fluffy rubbish that belong indoors, not out in the wilds
where the wolves can have them.

It should cut down the local cat population a bit, anyway.

Eaten by wolves, probably. It was merely mention that I had taken to
referring to those who clutter up the tourist traps and caravan parks in the
    valleys as "lowlife".
Wolves eat pussy. Film after the watershed.

  10. Which part of "documented" did you miss? I'm sure there are other who
are not documented but a) they are not documented and b) if they are
not documented they can't be counted..

Cougars OTOH - they have been documented as killing 10 humans between
    1890 and 1990 (in 53 attacks).

And what do you mean by "a very old tale"?

  11. Now *that* I agree with. I'm not necessarily pro-wolf re-introduction
here BTW. I just don't think that "they will attack humans" is a valid
    argument.

Lets make Scotland *really* "The Land that Time Forgot" rather than
    just mostly.

  16. Speak for yourself, matey.

If you really want to get all fluffy and cuddly with a wolf because it
might be cool, go and live in Romania.

  17. Colour me unsurprised. Lived in the Highlands, have you?
I don't believe the current fashion for painting the wolf whiter than
white really holds that much water. Those things have a mouthful of
teeth for a reason and it's not chewing grass. What is more, I'm bloody
sure if the pro-reintroduction lobby are allowed to, there will be
attacks on humans within a couple of years followed by a fatality or
two, most likely on lone campers.

The pro-bear movement is even less understandable - there's been a bloke
with a bear park near Loch Lomond, but it's well fenced and run as a
tourist attraction. So far so good, and if any escapes happen the animal
would probably be recaptured or shot fairly quickly. What really
disturbs me is the pro-bear lobbyists are serious about reintroducing
them into the hills to run free. Utter, utter insanity.

Well, it did stop it. Laid it out comatose. Then after a while it woke
up and ate what was left of the snake...

I was looking at the date but it seems to be genuine.

This has not, to the best of my knowledge, happened in France, where
    many forests have wild wolves.
Bears have been in the Pyrenees since 1996 (much longer, but brown bears
from Eastern Europe were introduced there to boost the population). As
far as I'm aware, no human has yet been killed, or even wounded, by one
    of those animals.

So you're talking shite again (or should I write, 'still'?).
