The CB Two Fifty, YP250, MZ 251 and even my Rover 218SD have come to
    me for the same reasons.

The Rover cost me £100 and came with nearly 6 months tax and a years
MOT. It had a long list of 'problems' that my mate (the PO) couldn't
do himself and couldn't afford / justify to have fixed professionally.

A couple of weeks after selling (giving) it to me I picked him up from
the station to go and collect his new (to him) car and he remarked how
all those broken things were now working again (the most obvious of
which was the drivers door electric window constantly dropping down
    into the door)!

None of it cost me much more than a bit of time to fix and once done
have stayed done for the last 5 years.
Always a risk when you sort something. ;-)

Nigel has a couple of PCs in his garage. He got a little exercised when I
started logging onto porn sites on one of them...

If I've stripped the entire fucking bike down to it's shreddies, there's no
way I'm not taking the opportunity to change the plugs, especially as I had
a new set in the cupboard courtesy of Ing. Doktor Carley. It's like when I
had my appendix done, they remarked that they'd have had it out anyway once
they were in there, even if it looked okay.

Hmmm, the 16K service for my CBR600RR says to inspect the spark plugs.

I would have thought they'd need replacement at that mileage.

I got one 3 or 4 years ago, and it's easily the best thing I've ever
bought for the garage. Can't imagine trying to manage without one
    now.

    Good to know.

Being keen on the d-i-y approach I was considering building my own
(you can find plans on the net with cutting lists etc).

I have a decent MIG welder, a horizontal steel cutting band saw and
could make mine slightly narrower than stock (it would be bolted down
anyway) as I could do with the space and don't need the use of a
    paddock stand (do I)?

I designed & built one for my O-level metalwork project, which would
make it around 25 years ago. Tested it using my dad's R80-GS, the day
before he set off to ride across Africa. The bike was all loaded up
ready to go, so I dread to think how much it weighed.

No, I left it at school to be recycled. I've got a couple of
shop-bought ones now - one hydraulic platform jobbie, & an
    under-the-sump screw lift thingy.
