Ah. The standard lamp I turned in woodwork at school is still in daily
    use at my Mums. ;-)
I bought one of the small hydraulic under-the-sump lifts from Makro
(£39 I think) and it's already been used to some success with the CB
250 and GPZ 550. Whilst it has it's virtues (like when working on
suspension etc) I don't think it's as practical as a proper full
    length lift.

The only sport I was ever interested in or good at was swimming. All theis
track and field shite left me cold, so I never got involved. I'm as fit now
as I was when I was 59 too.

    No "buts".
Space enough to stand = space for a rolling stool, complete with too tray
    underneath.
It's like a radio but with pictures. You don't HAVE to watch, and there's
not enough radio coverage of WSB or BSB.
Better bring more than one 7 tonner. My garage is near 40 foot long 8 feet
wide opening to 12 feet wide.
    Join the club.
Ohhh, you DO need a clear out.
    No drugs on that list?
Let me know how it goes coz I'm getting to the point where I need to do the
same, but I can't stand the thought.
You didn't work at Chloride at one time by any chance?

I'll tell you what young man, when you could buy perfectly good tools
by the lb at 'scrap' prices you never needed to 'borrow' any. ;-)

I was actually talking of the odd exercise book I've kept from the
various training courses I attended for them ... often some months
after actually repairing the stuff on the bench.

Ok, 3 buts actually, for the veggie patch. ;-)
I meant stand with both feet side by side. The Mrs helped me lift the
folding boat into the workshop yesterday (daughter wasn't about) and
whilst she could just handle the boat she's not as skilled at running
the gauntlet of bike pedals (the tandem managed to get her arm and
shin at the same time) and other sharp sticky-out objects.
Feck. You go down your workshop to do some stuff and they sneak this
stuff out when yer backs turned? Pictures you say?
The radio hasn't moved from Capital for about 20 years! Wouldn't
listening to a sports bike race just be like sitting next to a wasps
    nest? ;-)
And empty I hope (ready for when I come would with said truck full of
    stuff)?
For me it really is a matter of 'I can't be finished with it as I'm
not dead yet'. The problem really is too little space to store what I
want rather than too much stuff. This 'throw things away if you
haven't used tem for <stupidly short time period>' only works for
those who can't do anything with what they have and can afford lose /
    replace what they throw away.
    Need yes, want, no.
Not got any of that sort of 'paraphernalia'. ;-)
Our problem is we have reached critical mass, no space to clear into.
Stage one therefore is thinning out in general, then condensing,
    sorting, re-thining, refining etc.
That would have been handy. ;-)

Funnily at least 50% of my 1 tonne of batteries are actually 8 x 6V
Compton - Chloride monobloc traction jobbies from the electric moke.

p.s. A neighbour knocks the other day holding a sealed GT12B-4
motorbike battery and asked if I had a charger he could borrow (the
weather looked nice so he'd thought 'he'd get his sports bike out'
    <rolls eyes>) ;-)

I offered to check it out / charge it for him, took the battery and
tested it (Gold-IBT). It didn't even say 'voltage too low', nothing,
    zilch.

Luckily (for him) I had a spare GT12B-4 charged up and ready to go
(showing 17aH on the IBT) so popped it along to him to play with.

The Optimate seems to have dragged his old (looked new) battery up to
a 'ready' state but I'm going to test / cycle it a couple of times
before I give him my verdict.

It's bin a long time since anyone called me young man. Dad:)
I didn't actually think you meant you had a shedload of knock off hanging
    around.

Apparently so, although the picture on mine is so small I can't see it.
    Not when Jamie Whit's yakking.
Room to work in and pretty tidy too and everything is on wheels so if I have
to empty it, it takes a matter of minutes rather than days of planning. I'm
a big fan of moveable shite and wheels make it so much easier.
I've always found that the day after you bin stuff tht's been hanging around
for years, you suddenly need it desperately.
Yep, with you on that one.
Bugger, I feel the need right now.
I've just done that with the shed. It's very tidy now, but I don't seem to
have thrown much out. Racks are still full of engine bits from various
vehicles, a defunct paint mixing scheme half a million nuts bolts and
washers, tools etc, basically a load of shite I'll never use.
Not if you're my late Uncle Walt. The stupid **** managesd 3 years in
Strangeways for relocating batteries to his house.
    Lots of dead weight then.
Optimate's rule if you can get them to fire up a battery that thinks it's
dead. I use a 2nd battery to connect the Optimate to and then jump lead to
the "dead" battery. Removing the good battery leaving just the dead battery
on the Optimate works a treat.

I can't think of another reason for a pooter in the garage, so you taught
him a much needed lesson in modern living. You should be proud as Punch.

I'm still 18 in my head.
I know, well not shed loads anyway. ;-)

Re the courses thing. After repairing PCM line cards for 6 weeks they
sent me on the course up at Stone. I sat myself at the back, out of
the way but kept hearing incorrect stuff from the trainer. I quietly
spoke to him on the break and after that whenever he got to a bit he
was unsure about he would look at me for a secret nod or head shake.

Probably that the cost for the materials to make one would likely cost more
than buying a ready made (and guaranteed) one. The time it will take to
build one needs to be accounted for too.

I doubt it (and if I make something that fact alone is worth more than
    any guarantee).
    Why?

See ".. this is why we do it ourselves" thread for the actual answer.

I'm very kind hearted not nasty and I'm not taken to violent outbursts
either. Just as Monz of this parrish and he'll tell you the same thing.
