Anyone know the area? Anything special to look out for? And trains to
Paris - anyone know the score?

I don't know the area (although Chartres is apparently a decent place
to visit), but have some idea about trains (Paul C may give you more
    info).

I'd pop over to Nogent le Rotrou for a train (I reckon about 90 mins to
2 hours hourney time). Pretty frequent into Paris during rush hour, not
so good outside rush hour. About €20 per head.

Otherwise a trip to Chartres to catch a TER (which will take about an
hour into Paris). Prices are dirt cheap compared to the UK (I paid
around €15 to get back to Paris when I sold my GSX14). You shouldn't
    need to book in advance.

Check out http://www.tgv.com/EN/ for more info. Drop me a line if I can
    be of any help.

Cheers for this - Chartres and Orleons are on the list to visit.
That's great - many thanks Matey.
