Frank Thomas rain kit

  1. When did their kit go bad?

I ask because, after rigorous testing, my ancient aquapak has proved to
be up to it's intended task.

I was given it about 5 years ago, by a mate who had it for about 3
    years previously.

I didn't use it, until the Chimay run, this year, when I needed it to
combat the monsoon I hit on the M25. I've used it several times since,
    without problem.

All I've done is wipe it down and spray on waterproofing, back in
    March.

So, AFAIAC, this one "does what it says on the tin", though I admit I
have had some absolute trash from them in the past...

Anyone else had good FT items?

I had a few offs and many years in my FT 1pc suit before a seam burst.
However, it didnt let go in a big way and was/is still wearable.

Yup, a pair of 'saboteur' trousers. Fitted a lot better than the
flappy other brands I tried so I bought them on that basis. Had them
for around 4 years, and they only let water in if you're sat in a
puddle for a few hours. Downsides are that the membrane could be more
breathable, and the thermal liner needs to be left out unless its
    deepest winter.

Would have also had the jacket if I could have found anywhere selling
it, FT may have a shite name on here, but it couldn't be any worse
than the JTS thing I have at the moment which is as waterproof as a
    tea bag.

Anything from FT is shite. Including their customer service.

    Cab says...
I'll tell that to one of my oldest and best mates, he's one of FT's top
reps and a finer bloke you could never meet.

    My Aqua oversuit seems fine.

I'll be happy if you do. Maybe they'll change their act then. My
experience of FT has not been good nor helpful at all. I'll never buy
    anything from them again.

'sides, they don't sell in France, so that helps.

    <embarrassed now>

By accident rather than design, I've ended up with a textile jacket and a
set of leathers that are all FT. The kit fits OK, it seems to have thick
padded bits where I want thick padded bits, and apart from a trivial niggle
(velcro cuff straps are a bit short on the leather jacket) I can't really
    fault any of it.

I try to take things and people as I find them, rather than developing
unreasoning bigoted hatred of things just 'coz I can (will I really fit in
here???) ... so I have to say that IMO FT kit is not that bad...

Okay, okay, I concede. Maybe it's only me that's had bad experience of
    FT.

I still wouldn't buy their kit again though.

Dunno that I would... I just got lucky, I suppose.

Their boots are designed for aliens, certainly not for folk with
    human-shaped feet.....

Not... *your* shape of feet. Possibly.

But for humans? Oh, I dunno.
