Time to dust off the old longbow and start practising.

They've never come after me even after going through an obvious manned
speed trap way in excess of the posted limit.

Just chuck it back and say Des was driving if they do anything.

though. These days I sometimes take a perverse delight, as they are so
few and far between, in deliberately going past them bang on the limit
saluting the camera. Not a one fingered salute BTW. Seems to amuse the

    Ah. I see now.

This may help (in French, of course):

    http://www.securiteroutiere.equipement.gouv.fr/infos-ref/regles/csa/faq-
    csa.html#faq11

I think the first para is worded so that it gives you the impression
that the answer is "Yes" whilst telling you that furreners have a month
extra to reply. But it goes on to tell you which countries bilateral
    agreements exist.

Reading that will give you the "real" answer for you, which is "No"

Actually, I've just remembered (what delicious irony that TOG won't see
this.. hehehe) an article in (IIRC) _Libération_ about a month ago, stating
that foreigners who are nicked for speeding once and who don't pay it, will
have their vehicles immobilised, should they come back into France and get
stopped again (even if the second pull isn't for speeding).

I'll dig around and see if I can find a reference ..

This came up from a quick google..

    http://www.caradisiac.com/php/actu_enq/enq/pv/stationnement242/mg_12421_eviter_pv.php

Scroll down to 'L?automobiliste n?a pas été arrêté' ..

'Il n?en reste pas moins que ce dernier se trouvera probablement fiché
dans la base informatique de la police, de la gendarmerie et des
douanes françaises, ce qui, s?il devait être par la suite arrêté sur le
territoire français, donnerait lieu à l?application de la procédure
mentionnée précédemment (article L. 121-4 du code de la route). Mais
encore, ce genre de procédure est très peu appliqué !'

    ...

'Nonetheless, he [the driver/rider] will probably find his details
logged on the ~ PNC [to which have access police et gendarmerie
nationales and customs] and if he's subsequently stopped in France, the
previsions of the aforementioned procedure (Article L.121-4 of the Code
de la Route) will be applied. But again, this kind of situation is
    very rare!'

You can find that Article here ..

    http://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/WAspad/UnArticleDeCode?commun=CROUTE&art=L121-4

But again, why do I bother as you won't see this ..?

Be sure to let me know when are where you'll next be in France, TOG.

1} TOG was flashed not pulled.
    2) I thought it was impossible not to be made to pay on the spot these
days. Escorted to the nearest cash if necessary etc. ?

I can't see how they can make that work unless they have access to the
DVLA computer because all that'll happen is everyone's going to claim
they picked the bike up a week earlier and previous nicks are **** all
    to do with them.

I'll be fucking off into the distance if there's even the slightest
chance of escape so I can't see it bothering me whatever they do over
    there.

In practice, you're probably right as they're not going to chase you up for
    a 50¤ or what-have-you.
    Agreed.

I better have a read of that then having two flashes marking my card.
Still not convinced this will apply, for the time being at least, to
    brits, though.

There was a bloke at Wiscombe with a French number plate. Not a
French. Bike. Not actually registerd in France (though he tried using
a mate's address). Strictly an anti speed camera in the UK tactic. A
rather high risk strategy if actually pulled though. Couldn't do a
Champ by employing a convincing French accent. Probably a wind up
    anyway.

    Not 'sera'.

There was a case maybe seven or eight years ago of a Swiss motorist who got
stopped near the border with his country, and who when he couldn't pay on
the spot, was marched to a cash machine and made to withdraw the necessary
    readies.

Just don't fucking speed, eh? Think of the children.

  18. I got nicked in Avallon, in 1983, riding with my mate Niall. I was made
to stand with Le Plod while Niall went to town to get the (then) 500
    francs the fine cost.

Got nicked again, in 1989, and Plod demanded the fine, and I just didn't
have the cash (20 miles outside Calais, on my way home). Offered to pay
by CC but that didn't fly. They told me I was liable to be locked up and
have the bike impounded. As it was a Kawasaki press bike, I just
shrugged. Cooled my heels for 10 minutes by the side of the road, and
was then told to **** off.

What happens is, you get a plate made in France with your number on it. It
looks French, but it's your correct number. The hope is that British plod
et al think it's a French bike and don't bother. If you actually get pulled
up about it, the story is that your proper plate fell off in France, you got
one made in France to replace it, and you simply haven't got round to sortng
    out a GB one.

How well this works, I don't know.

This one was definitely to the French format with the two 'department'
digits at the end. The SOFEB faux WR250 is legitimately registered in
France. A wicked little voice keeps telling me to try bringing it to
the UK for a while on an exchange visit when I do a trailer trip. Whilst
not exactly fast, it could easily trip some of the more OTT speed
cameras round here. The lack of an MoT might also cause consternation.
Whilst not fluent, I reckon I could make a decent stab at a bit of
    "Quoi?" and shoulder shrugging.

<makes note to check with M. Siriex of AGF if I can get foreign cover>
<makes second note - why the **** did I not register the Tart in
    France?>
