  1. Julian Sopers round this way used to make cables to order. In fact it was
the only way they seemed to sell them. Dunno if they do mail order or,
since it has been taken over by the daughter, they even do them at all.
Much cleaning and degreasing first is A Good Idea.

How about inadvertent selection of reverse gear? That would do it, I
    think.
Thanks for that. I can't recall soldering nipples onto cables before -
I assume I've done it, but have no recollection. Hobgoblinned,
    probably.

While you're there, though ... did I see mention of a blasting cabinet,
the other day? I've just bought a light for the chair, see, and it has
a grille over the lens, which is part of the reason I bought it, as it
fits the 'look'. The grille is more than a little rusty, however, and
it will be as fiddly as hell with a wire brush in a Dremel. Would
blasting the rust off be an answer, d'you think? I'll be painting it
    black, in any case.

  3. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, SIRPip

?Has anyone sorted a good route
non motorway, scenic with bends a plenty
but not full of speed limiting villages?

    care to share?

Feel free to tell me I'm a twat by all means, but I've come to the
conclusion the only reason people still solder nipples on is because
that's the way it always used to be done. In these days of glues that
can hold lumps of engine & airplanes together, I don't see the point of
running the gauntlet to get a good solder joint. So the next cable I
have to make up will be done with JB Weld.

If you want to get there in time for dinner you don't have much choice
but to use the motorway for at least part of the route.

The detour via Londinieres was part of my route to Pithiviers a couple
of years back and was an absolute hoot.

Do you have that route in a form where it can be uploaded to a TTR2?
