Just not if you're a ham fisted cnut who happens to be riding on a cold
and wet road in a French town :)

It doesn't bother me at all, in fact I enjoy giving people rides -
particularly their first one. My step-daughter's delighted reaction to
her first "ton" was a picture.

Like Champ, and most here I guess, I keep my pillion's wishes
foremost. However, my wife is now so experienced that, whilst I brake
and accelerate a little more gently when she's with me, cornering and
overtakes are no different from when I'm on my own. As long as my pegs
ground before hers she's happy - which is nice.

    Heh.

She's right though. With a good pillion you can still make damn good
progress. Sure, I'm not as fast as the likes of Champ /et al./ but I
like to think that I don't hang about. I can ride in the same way, at
the same speeds solo as I can with Madam as pillion.

That'd be good if they did them in the right size, but you try finding
110/70/19 front tyres and there aren't many other than the trailie
    types.

Hmm, I'm more responsible with a pillion than without.

For some reason I assumed this was a response to BGN's "only 9 more
    years to go".

Fortunately it seems I was wrong.

Yeah, I don't like taking pillions.

Although I do have to confess that the challenge I set myself of riding
such that we never bang helmets is not an easy one to achieve in an
urbane environment and is very satisfying when I do. I take it as a
compliment if they fall asleep and a bonus when they fall off.

I ride differently with a pillion as they have an effect on the bike, I
also don't ride to scare them (as that's a bit cuntish) which maybe
construed as being responsible but the thought of "binning and breaking
someone other than myself" simply does not bother me.

I'm not that keen on binning and breaking *me* which in itself is a
disincentive to riding it beyond the limits of my control.

It's the same as being in charge of a train with a 1000 passengers: their
existence makes no difference to the way I drive. Except, perhaps, as an
additional weight with an effect on braking force.

I have Azaro AV45/46's on mine - in the right size.

I paid £174 for a ride in, ride out fitment. Not as cheap as the deal
FWR have - but still I was happy.

YOu might want to ask them about the 020 deal they have - it says "all
sizes" and the 020 does come in the right size for both front and rear.

Twice over the years, when out with the mem-sahib, the handling suddenly
became appalling. Naturally, this only shows on spirited entry to a bend(or
series of same) so I assumed a pucture. A quick check however, showed SWMBO
to be pushing out the zeds.
A swift 'FFS woman!' bellowed into the mic restored equilibrium.
    Thankfully.

Yes. The newer stock makes an automatic adjustment to brake cylinder
pressures based on the weight but you still need to be aware of it.
Older stock was seat of the pants stuff with adjustment made by the
driver and it made a big difference.

The site that Pip posted doesn't list them in the right size, in the
deal page or individual tyres page, just one 16" and the rest are 17".
I know, I'm waiting for a pair to arrive (ordered from a different
place with free next day delivery thats already a day late)

I'd say 99% is being extremely generous.

I am in the position whereby my insurance, MOT and VED fall within a
    week of each other.

Got the bike MOT'd, although the insurance expired (and was
automatically renewed), both on the same day.

The tax ran out on the 1st June.

I cannot tax the vehicle online as the DVLA database states I have no
insurance. I cannot tax the vehicle at the PO because I'm still
waiting for the paperwork documentation to turn up.

So, from the 27th May until (now) the 2nd June, I have been classified
as un-insured, and I'm sure that there are a lot more people out there
in my situation. Proffering a 99% statistic at this point in time
isn't sitting very well with me.
Which is why I didn't ride it once I discovered I was unable to renew
the tax online before it's expiration date. Despite the fact that the
insco have confirmed that I am definately insured. A moot point now
though, 'cos now I'm not taxed, either.
The error on the DB in this instance would appear to be the insco, as
they (according to the broker, Bennetts) may only update their data
once a week...which leaves 6 days of possible 'uninsured' vehicles
    being pulled and impounded.
And I can fully understand the reasons behind the initiative, but when
it has such an impact on someone that is (usually, until now, because
of the bloody computer system) fully road-legal to the point whereby
they cannot use their vehicle, things need to be addressed.

It's a good job I wasn't going to the TT this year, because where the
heck would I stand at this point in time? And as I'm booked for next
    year, I hope the same cock-ups don't re-occur.

  20. The trouble with all these so-called "initiatives" is that, as you
imply, they address one problem but directly exacerbate another.

I mean, look at this number plates thing. Cameras everywhere and they
make it impossible to just waltz into a shop and buy a plate without all
    the documentation, etc.

So what happens? People nick 'em.

Reply to that? "Theft-proof" (don't make me laugh) plates which,
surprise surprise, cost twice what the old plates used to cost.

And you can be certain that someone will find a way of getting round
    that particular barrier as well.....

It strikes me that when governments start getting techie, they *always*
    **** it up.
