The guy I work with atm is off on Wednesday with some mates to spend an
entire week at the Ring. Last week, I sent him a link to the Ring calendar
which listed all the times it's closed to the public next week. Today, I've
been talking about weather to him. Current status is that he and his mates
may just head for the South of France instead...

Reliability as in achieving a particular (suitably low) average speed
rather than a trouble free machine. Everyone (well me and the other more
modern bikes) just rides round as fast as they can to the Creg and then
hangs about before attempting to arrive back at the grandstand at
    exactly the right moment.

The weather over the mountain was the worst I have ever experienced in
35 years. The Morini bimbled around faultlessly but my precision timed
calculations were thwarted by a Douglas Corporation lorry on the last
few hundred yards of Glencrutchery Road. Too many observers to get back
on the correct pace by a last minute demon overtaking manoeuvre.

  4. If the cap fits ....
The point about the Isle of Man is that they don't do conventional so
you can experience a whole pile of things that are not considered
logical on the mainland. That statement applies as much to motorbikes
as to transport or anything else.
Well it did seem to be a success. I can probably organise one at any
time if people are sufficiently interested and can be reasonably
flexible about weekends. Max numbers for any one event is probably six
people - I think WUN and Champ are at the head of the queue IIRC past
    posts correctly.

  7. Ah yes; there's nothing quite like being hauled along Douglas Prom
watching a horse's arse emitting cack as it trots along.
Electric Railway's a hoot, though. You don't quite believe the thing's
going to reach the top without rolling back downwards.

The g/f wasn't desperately chuffed about the rucksack. Especially
after we got knocked off on the M6 on the way there.

Not quite. The week before we set off I rode the Z750 into the front
of an oncoming GPO van. Ambulance to St Thomas', bike recovered to
Clapham. I got the bike back on Thursday night, we set off on
saturday. On the way there, a Marina skidded into the back of us in a
tailback on the M6 - girlfriend was doing a good impression of a
helpless turtle on the road surface - unable to get up because of the
    rucksack.

When we got back, I took the Z in for the insurance estimate,
whereupon I was informed that the frame was bent. Which went some way
to explain the "interesting" handling. It got nicked before the GPO
coughed up, but not until after I'd fitted new tyres, and a set of
Paioli rear shocks. Red, they were.

  17. The omens weren't good.
I hope the PO coughed up the full amount. Brightside, maybe the tealeaf
rode it off the road because of the dodgy handling.

your way of expressing it. Result, then.

Weeeeell, it was like this, officer.

    Blackfriars Bridge Road, 8:30am. Northbound.
I've turned left from Lambeth Road into B'friars Bridge ROad, and see
two lanes of stationary traffic, so I jink left into the "Turn Left"
filter lane, and as the the lights are green, I gas it. Around this
time, it becomes apparent that the two lanes are stationary to allow a
BMC GPO van to cross their path to enter Peabody Square.

    "Oh, ****!"
    *Bang*
    "Ow"
    "Nee-nah-nee-nah"

    etc.
