This morning the lad and I have been fitting the supermoto wheels to his YZ85. All went well, though this stage of his apprentice fettling course revealed that his mild dyslexia sometimes extends to having trouble knowing intuitively which way to twiddle the spanner. We knew the front brake was not fantastic, and sure enough the adjuster on the lever has been wound out almost to maximum. New pads then, but what to go for. Unlikely it will be used off road much next year. Not being 'raced', so fade shouldn't be an issue. The brake needs to bite hard but not grab when stone cold. I'm looking on Ebay to start because I have reasonable Paypal balance after shifting the Nordwest stuff. Spoilt for choice. So: Goldfren Metal ceramic SBS Racing Sintered Vesrah Kyoto Newcore Delta sintered I've used SBS and I have some Goldfren for the Morini but haven't tried them yet. Or RENTHAL RC1 WORKS sintered, at twice the price of all the above from the USA (though probably available off Ebay). I'm inclined to go for at least a name I know. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster [ SPACE ! ] Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
@ps-fisher.demon.co.uk: Ferodo Platinum pads are well liked in the BMW R-GS world as an alternative to the OE pads. Used off road on places like Salisbury Plain. M&P sell the Ferodo pads and accept paypal http://www.mandp.co.uk/home.aspx?cmd=showFile&arg=ferodoyamahafront (seems they recommend the Platinum or Sintergrip, depending on the age of the bike)
"Carbone Lorraine" SBK5 (race) pads for me, in both the race bike and in the road bike too. I'll be putting them into the Hyper stoppers once the oem Brembo wear out, although those huge monobloc radials are fierce enough as it is! I also hear good things about Performance Friction too.
Ta, I'll have a look. Forgot that Paypal can work outside Ebay. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster [ SPACE ! ] Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
I know the guy(s) that own them. There is nothing they dont know about brakes. -- Gavin. GSXR600K1 Twitter: http://twitter.com/gavin_wilby Blog: http://www.stoof.co.uk
I've used Vesrah, but not in anything sporty. I generally go for EBC or SBS but only because I know the name and trust them. Don't rule out changing the disc. I have EBC Prolites (I think they're high carbon steel) and they stop like **** in the cold. Paul.
In communiqué Now there's a thought. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster [ SPACE ! ] Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Can't see brake pads listed TBF. http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/catalogue.pl?section=108440&shop=tric itybendix Ta, another one to consider as they do list the YZ85. Amazingly they even have them for Voxan (well not really as they use Brembo calipers). -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster [ SPACE ! ] Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Tricity Bendix. As to brake pads, I'm more than Happy with the Carbone Lorraine SKB5s that went on the thou before the Alps run. Bite like a pitbull from the first moment.
