FS: BMW K100RS

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Oct 3, 2009.

  1. I'm a bit stumped as to what to do with this thing. I had vague ideas of
using it as a commuter bike, as I do 80 miles a day, including a lot of
    motorway.

Pondered passing it on to Number One Son.

Anyway, now that my company has just announced that they're relocating
the office from Tunbridge Wells to the City, I doubt I'll be commuting
on it. Might still hang onto it. Might Fleabay it.

    But if anyone's interested:

1987E K100RS, in black. Brand new MoT, no tax, SORNed.

48k miles, verifiable, so only just run in, really ;-)

Fsh: a whole A4 wallet full of stuff. Handbook, original toolkit, etc
etc. Haynes BoL to throw in as well.

It's been fitted with K1 bars, which are fractionally higher and wider
than stock. The mirrors have been fitted with the K1 extenders, that
move them out about an inch on each side. It's a common mod. I have a
set of RS bars if anyone wants to put it back to stock.

There are some gaffa-taped rips on the seat. I have a brand new seat
    cover, ready to go on.

Paint is very good indeed. There are some marks and spots on the frame:
it is 22 years old, after all. Motad exhaust.

BMW panniers, of course. Only one key for these, so you'll need to get a
spare cut. I have a spare key for the ignition.

It's missing the little flip-up clear bit that sits on the top of the
screen. £35 from Motorworks if you find you can't live without it.

Starts and runs absolutely beautifully. Runs just like a decent K
should. Last service was 1500 miles ago, according to the book, so
shouldn't need anything doing. Will need new tyres in maybe 1500 miles.

I can email pix if anyone's interested, but it's just a decent KRS,
    really.

To you, my children, a Bag o' Sand (£1000), which is exactly what it
owes me. Sutton, SW London area.

I'm going to be working on a major project for Southern in a couple of
weeks which will see me working at Stewarts Lane depot in Battersea
for the next 6 months. I can get the train for free, but it's not
    really ideal.

I realise I have a good Fazer 600 but if I were to go by bike from
Shoreham I think I'd fancy something a bit more distance-oriented.

Cost is no great issue - a couple of week's OT would pay for it, and I
guess I could punt it on in the spring for near enough the current
    asking price.

I'll have to consult The Management...

Sorry, the email in the header does work although I
don't use it for normal stuff. Hotmail seems to filter out
    most of the rubbish.

  6. I've just seen this. And a mate last night, over dinner, said he wants
first refusal. I'll get back to you.

You really ought to keep it as your commuter. Its ideal for the job
and is at least a known quantity...

  8. For my present soon-to-end commute, yeah, great. But it's just too big
for the sort of snarled-up London traffic I'll be doing.

Which is Sutton to Morden, and then all the way up the A24 to the
Elephant, then the river, over London Bridge, and up Moorgate through
    the City.

A 250 will do me just fine. Maybe even a 125, but their used prices are
    a bit too high.

Ah - that sounds like the sort of thing an XBR500 would be ideal for.

What about having the Benly back? It needs the sticky carb from
standing for ages cleaned and an MOT. After buying it from you I
commuted to Nottingham and back on it for 6 months and since then it
has been sat in the garage waiting for me to MOT and flog it. You'll
remember I got around to sticking a new battery on it but couldn't get
the engine to catch and it was waiting to be looked at but your guess
was gummy works. Everything else is as it was, only dustier.

  13. Hm. Quite tempted by that, actually. That was a good little bike.

    In communiqué <1j72hjg.1bldcyw1gvcykgN%>,
Still got SWBO's 'K' reg CB250 sitting in the garage. TBH, I can't see
her riding it again. I suppose I ought to keep it for the lad though.
Mechanically it's very good, except it hasn't been started for a year or
two and naturally the battery is fubar. Cosmetically the white fur has
got a hold on most of the alloy. Depends if you want a concours winner
    or a commuter I suppose.

If you want, I could dig it out and see if it still runs before the
Stafford weekend. That'll be a lot easier now Simon has collected the
rat bike Nordwest. Even if you don't stop here you could call in on the
way, or way back to have a look.

You could ride right down through the Americas on a bike like that.
    Someone would buy the story/video

    You sound just like crn.

    I do Wandsworth - Vauxhall - Kennington - Elephant & Castle - Tower
Bridge - Wapping on the thou every day and it's a doddle. No, scratch
that, it's not a doddle, it's an absolute hoot.
