    Oooooooooooh.... that sounds fun :)

But does it make the engine seriously stressed? I know it is only
stressed when your right foot is planted, but the power and sound are
addictive enough as it is so planting feet will be kind of a regular
    occurance.

    Wanna email me more details?
    I can imagine, 390bhp.
I stuffed the last one due to a combination of me turning the TC off on
the car, forgetting I'd done that and the power building up just at the
    wrong moment and my inexperience.

I want to be able to happily come off a roundabout sideways, under
complete control, and if it does it unexpectedly, not panic and know
exactly what to do to control it.
Holy crap, I'd love to see that (from a safe distance!)

Do they do banger racing for artic + trailers?

When chatting to sales bloke I found out that the service intervals for
the 987 Boxster is every 20,000 miles.

Sounds rather high for the sort of engine it is so asked him if he
thought doing an extra oil change in the middle was a good idea, to
which he replied "nope, perfctly happy every 20k miles"

Maybe the engine might be happy every 20k miles, but I know I'd be
happier with an oil/filter change every 10k miles.

Me: "That thing pulls to the left very noticeably"
Seller: "Oh, I think it could use some alignment - haven't had that done
    for at least 4-5 years"

My mechanic: "You know, those adjustment bolts for the rear suspension?
They're fucked, the bushes have play in them so every time I adjust them
and put the car back on its wheels, the camber changes slightly?"

And a few items that he told me about when I came to see the car but
somehow forgot to mention before - like advisories for rust on the
rear subframe, tyres, but it'll most likely get Toyo R888s anyway so
that doesn't bother me too much and rear brakes

Fortunately the 1.8 torsen diff I just picked up came with a free
subframe and all the rear suspension (minus shocks and springs)
and brakes attached. The subframe needs a little work with a wirebrush
and a visit from the POR-15 fairy and the job's a good un'.

    Most definitely.

Yup, and when we had a very intensive instruction day at Abbeville (just
another pupil, myself and Ben - and an empty race circuit), he tried to
teach transferable[1] skills instead of the more usual "brake here -
floor it here" instruction you get at most trackdays.

[1] As in, how to 'read'/work out the way around a circuit yourself and
how to arrive at the braking points etc. Basically, stuff that transfers
from one circuit to the other rather than "watch this cone".

I assume you know that you've chosen the hardest engine layout to do
    this with, right?

How much oil do these take? AFAIR even my old 911 has quite long oil
change intervals (which I tend to ignore and stick to 6k/1 year), but
that takes a massive amount of oil. Something like 10l+.

As would I be. Especially if you drive it hard/track it.

Presumably these are useful when some ignorant **** with HID headlamps
    comes up behind you?

I'll ask around. I have heard of people dropping 911 engines in, but
doing that is silly money and IMO not worth it.
    Nice. Different league.
The only places you can have fun on snow any more are supermarket car
parks at 4am. Fun but doing it at 5mph you don't get the momentum /
    pendulum effects going on.
They'll be banning them next for our own good.

You mean those people who fit them to normal halogen headlights, which
    don't have the self-levelling fitted?

    Yep.

My BM, OTOH, has HIDs from new, so has the self levelling doodahs, so
    doesn't dazzle.

Honestly I don't know why people moan about proper HIDs. The upgrade
ones fitted to non HID housings, sure, but the proper kit keeps itself
clean and keeps the beam pointed down. Halogen lights are normally dirty
this time of year, scattering light all over the place, and bloody MOT
wankers adjust them to point too high, or so they're level when the dash
adjuster is pointing down, so when the driver notices and adjusts them
    back up they point high.

I took the photos after buying the car, so it won't be there.

I took the one with the garage in the background to prove a point to the
sales guy (that the camera they're using is *absolutely* shite, they
might as well cover the cars in slurry before taking the pictures, if
they bought a decent camera people could actually see the cars)

Who knows? All I *do* know is that I would happily pay taxes to have a
vehicle touring the roads with twin offset light-sensitive .75 calibre
cannons ready to educate the arseholes who can't be bothered to find out
why they get flashed a lot.

Ah well. I can confidently say if I ever do get flashed things get
inspected pretty damn quick and the lights tweeked down.

When they're mis-adjusted they cast sod all light on the road anyway so
    it benefits them.

Are you at home by the way, or up in the grim north still? (IIRC)
