More than likely. It was pretty rancid. I'm sure yours is lovely.

    You could say that, yes:

I believe it takes a special kind of tightarse to wear a sprocket to this
professional level of even, unhooked teeth feckedness.

I wouldn't say lovely... especially after having to bite the bullet and get
a clutch for it today, but I reckon mine is a pretty tidy example of one.

Given they dissolve if left out in the rain too long without occasional TLC,
and plenty are run as courier hacks oop in that there London, there are
plenty of shithouse ones kicking about out there now.

  5. Replcing the shock with a shorter one is silly unless you lift the forks
in the yokes as well, and then you run into ground clearance probs.

A re-worked seat is a much better idea. That, and platform boots.

    [Fazer]
Mine seemed to go on and on, until destroyed by a prang. Some issues
with odd tyre wear and a fairly uncomfortable pillion perch but
    otherwise pretty good.

Was it underpowered though? That's the most important factor.

'SMIDSY' or down to your own fuckwittery?

I've not ridden this one much in the wet, but I found the last one very
inspiring in the wet compared to stuff like the CBR600s I've had... which
might explain why so many appear to end up with fairing damage. ;-)
The rear that has just been replaced seemed to have worn as you'd expect.
No complaints from 'the boy' as of yet, but then this is the first bike he's
    been out on.

I don't think they are as 600s go, and I've owned / ridden a fair few now.

I've seen a couple of links that suggest a sub 4 second 0-60 for them, so
they're no slouch off the mark and that's backed up by how easy it is to get
the front in the air IMHO.

(and yes, I accept the riding position helps with that, but even so...)

An indicated 140 is what they'll do flat out normally, maybe a touch more on
    a good day.
No, the most important factor with these is 'Has it got OE downpipes?', IME.
    ;-)

Actually, come to think of it, I've only ever ridden two 600s: a mk1
fazer and a GSXR SRAD. Both had the same hairdryer feel. So the Fazer
may not be bad for what it is, the problem is that it's a 600.

It's only a problem if they're not your bag... which it would appear they're
    not in your case.

To put it another way, if the Fazer Thou I looked into buying a while back
was as good as they get, I'd rather keep my early 600 as it's more
entertaining to ride, for me anyway.

I suspect, if I rode a Gixxer Thou, I'd probably want one bar I'm quite
comfy with the more upright riding position the Fazer has over say the R6 I
    had a few months back.

This is a key concern with getting a Chunderace and ideally I ought to try
one before I commit to buying one, but whatever, I'll always be able to get
another Fazer should I not get on with one of those and flog it on.

The fact I can't afford a Gixxer Thou / R1 or whatever in that class for the
foreseeable is another reason why I don't want to try any of them, lest
everything else seem a bit limp afterwards. :)

I tried a 750 like you had, about three months ago I suppose.

It felt quite flat at the upper end of the rev range by comparison to the
    Fazer.

Handling wise, it felt pretty dead and heavy compared even to the VFR800 I
had at the time, and yes, I checked that the tyres weren't squared off etc,
and yes, maybe the suspension had been messed around with and needed setting
    up better.

Nice looking bike but ultimately I wasn't that impressed by it.

    Flat compared to a fazer?

Bizzare. I owned an SRAD 750 for 7 years. It was quite possibly,
the best handling bike I've ever ridden. Light, razor sharp and a
screaming aggressive top end. Low down the rev range it wasn't much
cop, admittedly, but it never spent much time there.
There was either something wrong with the bike, or your
medication must've needed a top up.

Yes... it wasn't all that pleasant to ride compared to some of the other
stuff I've ridden, as outlined briefly above.

    *shrug*

Speak as I've found, so to speak.
Well yes... I've not stated that 'all GSXR750 SRADs are equal, only some are
more equal than others', have I?

The bike concerned didn't appear to be all that neglected or shonky, and it
    had recently been serviced.

Maybe I ought to try another some time, as I'd get a decent one for the same
sort of money as a Chunderace.

I'll second that. I had a whale of a time scrubbing the Rennsports in
on the way to the MOT and back. It really was a sweet bike once it had
been properly serviced and looked at.

    A 600 Fazer weighed 189kg and had 95bhp (claimed).
A 750 gixer weighed in at 179kg and had 125bhp (claimed).

A full on sports bike that is 10kg lighter, 30bhp more powerful
isn't going to feel flat, compared to it's heavier, slower, more
    touring oriented counterpart.

It needs to be ridden more like a two stroke, keep it
on the boil above 10k rpm and it will not dissapoint.
Try to ride it like a normal tourquey four-stroke and
    it'll seem dull and underpowered.

As for the heavy handling, did it have a damper fitted?
I never did with mine, it would slap a bit every now and
again, on full throttle over banding/white lines etc. But
never enough to really worry you.

As Bear says, it really is a very focussed piece of kit.
    No half measures allowed.

In comparison to a litre bike yes, especially in the effortless riding
stakes, needed some work to keep it moving. Compared with other 600cc
    bikes, no not really.

    Me either
There were some right wobbly cunts on the IOM in the wet when I was
    there.

They scared the **** out of me a few times when they braked
    unpredictably mid bend.

Weird, mine always succumb to the rattler. Maybe you need a bigger
    compressor.

Oh, and do always use decent 6 point impact sockets Bond, YKIMS.
