FS: Honda NTV650

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by jackhackettuk, Jul 6, 2008.

  1. Advertising this here on behalf of my old man before it gets shoved on
    the bay of E.

    1995 M reg Honda NTV650.

    MOT til June 2009
    Taxed til January 2009

    Red and totally original throughout.

Has had three owners... an old gentleman who owned it up until 2006
when it passed to someone who I suspect bought it on to sell, at which
    point my dad bought it.

The original owner did just over 3,000 miles on it before they sold
it, and it's now covered a grand total of 4,500 miles from new.

*Always* garaged... has only only got caught out in a mild shower the
once in the time my dad has had it, and it shows - bar one minor scuff
on the edge of the headlight trim from where he got caught off balance
and laid it down whilst stationary a few weeks back (1), no other
marks / dents etc, and IMHO is in as new condition bar the usual
bluing of the downpipes these get.

Was serviced a few months ago at the local Honda dealers, at which
point it had the carbs cleaned and balanced.

I'll be heading down to get some pics of it hopefully on Tuesday night
if anyone is interested in seeing how clean / original it is.

I've ridden it a couple of times and whilst it's not my cup of tea, I
appreciate it's as perfect an example of one of these as you'll now
    find.

    £1595, based in Kent.

He's also going to be selling off his two Superdream 250s if anyone is
interested, and one of these is low mileage and in very good nick as
well - more details once he rings me later on.

    (1) Did it in the best possible place, too... pulling into the car
park of the local bike meet on a sunny Sunday morning with loads of
other bikers on hand to point and laugh. ;-)

  3. I seem to remember that the really clean one has something like 18k
    under its belt.

Is it possible to have too many of these wonderful classics???

  5. Bloody pricey for an NTV, but not for one that's so low mileage and
    clean, IMHO.

Hard to see who'll buy it. My guess is either some other old codger
who's been looking for The NTV Of His Dreams, or else a despatch rider
who will render it down into its constituent elements by the end of the
    year.

  6. Well that's what I thought - once I've sorted out some pictures of it,
    I'll post them up here.

There is room for a *little* adjustment in the price if someone here
did have a hankering for one of these.
That's what happened when Pater bought it.

The reason for sale is because if he's honest he's never really liked
the NTV (1) and has just landed a tidy Diversion 900 as a replacement.
I'm seem to remember some A5 sized rag that the trade has you can
advertise in - any idea what it's called?

    (1) There's nothing wrong with it as such, it's just not his cup of
    tea.

Yup, based on my 2 hour experience of a Deauville, i'm suspecting the
NTV will be a deeply unpleasant motorcycle.

I've never forgiven the cunts at Tippett's for that loaner.

  14. Despatchers like them because they tend to be pretty reliable, if
terminally boring - shaft drive, gentle power, the ability to not
    shred tyres etc.

That, and they're pretty good on fuel.

However, I suppose boring is good if you're looking to reliably cover
the sort of mileages they cover and still have a licence at the end of
    it. :)

I had a brief go on it the other week whilst Pater had a quick play on
my then trusty steed, a CBR600, and I personally wouldn't have one...
but then I got rid of the CBR because I found even that a bit too
gutless for my liking, so no surprise really.

It's been a while since I last rode a CG125, but in a funny sort of
way it came across as a sort of grown up one of these, to me at least.

He's also got a tatty Givi Wing rack and new looking fitting kit /
indicators to suit this, and a set of white Givi panniers he'd throw
in with it, plus if anyone wanted the footpeg lowering kit he had
shipped in from Germany for it a while back, he'd do a deal on that as
    well.

Apparently that'll fit my VFR, but I'm happy with the riding position
    as it is.

  15. He's got two - you could have one for each knacker. ;-)

  17. They all do that, Sir.

    Hondas, that is.

Even the VFRs select the odd false neutral unless you're fairly
    committed with the gear pedal.

  18. No, not that one.

Hummm... I've not worked in that line for 'some time' now so maybe
it's not around any more, but there used to be something specifically
aimed at couriers that seemed to be distributed directly to courier
    companies rather than newsagents.

No matter... I expect it'll end on the eBlag in due course.

I don't think he's in a hurry to get rid of it, but it seems pointless
to hang onto it now he's moved onwards and upwards to better things,
    as in the Diversion (1).

    (1) I never ever thought I'd hear myself refer to a Diversion in that
    context (2).
    (2) Awaits long post defending the Divvie 900 from TOG ;-)
