SteveH has already made the point. I do not wish those able to see the
offer earlier than others to be given preference. There are better
criteria by which to choose a buyer.
Good manners don't dictate what I do, they are defined by it.

Discounting actual amount offered and whether any persons involved have
history as being something of a 'messer', what else did you have in mind for
the checklist you'll be operating should you ever decide to advertise some
    of your old tat?

I'm not taking the piss... I'm genuinely interested in what you'll come up
with bar 'this one is known to me'.

Why discount them? Compared to first come first served I think they're
both "better criteria by which to choose a buyer" for starters.
Ok then, one more go. But if you're generally interested then perhaps
you could make a genuine effort to understand.

The only reason I've offered things on ukrm in the past, rather than
advertising them locally, or on ebay or freecycle, has been in order
to be able to pass them on cheaply or for free to friends, or to
worthy causes, or to someone I knew was in real need. I don't regard
ukrm simply as an alternative commercial outlet.

I meant as in 'ok, these are almost certainly two givens when determining a
criteria of these sorts', and was genuinely interested in what else you
reckoned would be criteria to consider when selling something via a open
'free for all' board such as UKRM.
Given the lack of clarity to actual criteria offered up by yourself so far,
the above could perhaps be considered as condescending to say the least, and
there's no need for it really is there.
I am - you hadn't, up until this point, actually stated what you considered
to be worthy criteria for anyone looking to buy old tat off of you, ergo how
can I even begin to understand what your actual criteria is in this respect?
There's nothing commercial about offering up ones own 'things' in exchange
for money and / or for free, in a newsgroup like this... unless of course
you happen to be buying / gaining stuff to sell on at a profit, in which
case yes, it is indeed commercial.

That aside, what you personally regard UKRM to be is irrelevant really.

The fact is, it's unmoderated group which anyone with a newsreader and a
stomach for cliquey (1) pedantry can access, so unless you want to label any
'for sale' or 'freebie' posts with 'offer available to chosen members of the
clique (1) only', you can't blame some people for questioning 'I have
criteria in this respect that differs from the more usual 'first past the
post' methodology seen virtually everywhere else on the net'.

The general etiquette from what I've seen on other forums is first with
their hand up generally gets it so long as they're not a complete messer.

    (1) There is no clique, or cliques within the clique... that doesn't exist.

On the contrary, it's entirely the point.
You are so wide of the point that I'm giving up.

Well, I've had time the past month or so.

1 week left, then back to work.

New job, more money, but crap car and no opt-out option :-(

  10. If that depresses you... well, you're doing better than most in this
recession. Can't you just prang the Pious? Or short out the battery pack
    or summat?

Clique? No, but you look after your friends and family before

Did you not see that article (complete with photo) of a chap who get sent a
parking fine through the post because he stopped his bike to put on a
waterproof jacket when it started pissing down? He was on a single yellow
and close to a roadside tax collecting camera. It was in t' comic.

IIRC he was stopped for 30 seconds.

There are more reasons to refuse to sell to someone.

People may be genuine cunts, you just may not like them, you may know
they intend to turn a quick profit, you may know they're loaded and
others are more deserving of a cheap or free XYZ.

Depends what you're selling, why you're selling, and if you're in the
    clique or not.

And here we see the late youngling stage of the posters development.

Estimated age of the poster is between 3 and 4 months.

Soon, they will begin to post prolifically, believing they have been
"accepted" by the rest of the pack.

Little do they know, and too late will they see, the huge black thunder
clouds rolling in behind them, bringing untold bile, misery and
    suffering.

Aye, well that's understandable... but then I tend to ask my mates, as in
the real ones rather than the more common 'mere acquaintances', if they want
something before offering it up to the masses.
    Of course.

It does... but given the general 'first past the post' attitude that seems
to apply almost everywhere else when for sale posts are lobbed up on forums,
you can understand why some might question how it appears to differ in here
    on occasion.
