    thanks for this, Timo.

I had been pondering buying Hog's bike now that I have a buyer for the
Tiger, but your involvement in the whole thing, even as a rival
prospective buyer is easily enough to put me off buying a >30Kmile
    Ducati.

Passenger accomodation is fantastic, better than airheads and K's. Reserve
comes up around 140-150 and I run it 30 into the red.

I don't think miles are a problem on a late Ducati. They are better finished
and more reliable than most Jap stuff. I think this ST will be good for 100k
at the very least without unusual expense.

It certainly seemed to go OK on the run at last year's BOSM.
Thanks for the info. I'll have a bit of a think but it sounds like you
may not have too much difficulty selling.

For two and a half grand I doubt it somehow. Barely the cost of a good
    weekend in Amsterdam.

Well Statto is quite interested too. Beav is in Bolton. I'm in York. Chris
did express interest first but he's thinking about it.

Crikey. There aren't many bikes with a range greater than 180. And
none I'd like to ride, I suspect.

With gentle riding[1] the Tiger will easily do 200, maybe even 220.
    you wouldn't.

[1] i.e. making the mistake of going with Niall Rowan.

I am vaguely tempted, but I don't really know why, as touring is
definitely not my focus for my next bike.

It'll do a fair bit more than that, even with not-so-gentle riding, so
long as you steer clear of motorways. I've had over 240 out of a tank
when playing on the mid Wales twisties, with a bit of heavily congested
M4 thrown in at the end. The low fuel light came on at around 220 iirc.

Spend a couple of hours on the motorway at 90 & things get a lot worse.
Which I guess shows how aerodynamic Tigers aren't.

  12. Really? I never managed. Best I got was about 170.

The Heffalump, yes? No way will a 9R go that far.
I'm fairly sure I wouldn't want to be seen on something that ugly.

"steering clear of motorways" is what I meant by "gentle".

On the way over to Neuville from Calais (85 miles), bimbling along
country roads at 50-60-70mph, and then 20-30-40 through towns, it used
about 1/4 a tank of fuel.

On the way back, sitting at a fairly constant 90-120mph on the
motorway, it used 1/2 a tank for the same number of miles.

    I don't need a commuter, I don't need a tourer and I definitely don't
need something that's good for a pillion.

But I think at some point I really ought to own a Ducati, and this is
    why it's sort of tempting.

I hadn't realised the VFR was that good. Can you remember what size
    tank it had?
To be fair, I could 180 miles out of my ZZR when in touring mode. No
    more, tho.

In that case you would crack 200 on the ST. I doubt I ever got more than
    150ish out of a K!!

That's the one I was pointing at, yes...
.... but it will, if you're escorting a certain 6R through rural France.
Once you're sitting on it, it's not that ug... oh, actually, it is.

You probably don't want an ST4, then.
Perhaps one of the more-mental Monsters would be better?

    It's cheap!
A 996 or 998 will cost 2-3 times that for the same/similar engine and
    suspension.
Obviously a 998 is a lot more desirable. Possibly irresistible. It would
look cool beside the new ST.

I have to get down to 4 bikes, including the R100RS and another (CB500 type)
    commuting bike

What you really need is my B12 special. That is utterly barking. I'm not
going to sell it to someone it'll kill though ;o) 130bhp at tyre.
