The best tank range I've had on the SV was from chasing Hog down French
autoroutes at 130mph the other weekend.

I used to get 200 miles easily on the Sprint ST - max out of a tankful
was, IIRC, around 250 miles, when I knew I was running low with some
way to go, in France on a Sunday night, before I had a French bank
card. Tank was nominally 21 litres, although I never managed to get
more than 20 in, even from dry.

Haha, funny story. We were packing up at a trackday a couple of months
ago and somehow managed to load someone else's fuel jug in our van. It
definitely belonged to one of the other instructors as they shared
garage with Danny and Martin, another local mate. When we got home the
jug was left in the van with the intention of finding out who owned it
    and returning it.

Fast forward to a very cold night that I spent sleeping in the back of
the van that was parked in the car park of a posh hotel on Anglesey, a
night where I'd drunk about 4 pins of cold lager. Unsurprisingly I
needed to make space in my bladder as I couldn't sleep, and the nearest
thing to hand was the fuel jug we'd brought along. Next morning I
flushed it out with some Tesco Super Unleaded and left it at that.

The story of my midnight wazz got around all the instructors, and
no-one would claim the extra jug, so I made it mine. Last weekend at
Rockingham someone, we dont know who, managed to pick up the wrong fuel
jug and load it when they left, they left one with a different coloured
spout collar behind, so I now have a wazz-free fuel jug.

did you take into account evaporation between your trips?

No - this was in the first year I had it when I actually used it..

I'm getting twitchy about not having a bike. My current thought is to
find a small trials-style bike that costs pennies and is small, light
    and fun..

    Any ideas?

One of the Chinese cheapos like SteveH's would probably fit the bill,
depending on what you consider 'fun'.

The Ducati Performance gel saddle arrived yesterday. finally. Tad late
for the Tog tour. Incredibly plush front and rear. it seems to be an
inch lower though, not so sure about that bit. So no more foam and duct
    tape.

More to the point the new toy arrived on a van yesterday afternoon.

The front view reminds me of a Honda model. 'Blade Urban Tiger or
something? very insect like I think.

First impressions are mixed. The 06 bike is smoother with a more refined
drive train than the 03 bike (wet clutch). Lighter throttle but a bit
edgy and snappy off tickover. The 03 bike is so easy to filter through
town with a bit of clutch slip. The fairing is better, but the laminar
lip on the 03 makes up for a lot. The instrument console is very Star
Trek: power headlight adjustment, fuel computer, adjustable UV backlight
like a VW, but I don't like digital speedos and the 03 clocks are very
    readable.

So the 03 bike is slightly harder edged, feels slightly sharper,
handling and perfomance are the same, the wet clutch is quieter but
feels identical. will be a great buy for someone.

    Yellow? FFS.
BTW, you do know that the new one is a dry clutch, right?

    Not for long!
See everything I was told and read tells me a 2006 4S is an oil bath
clutch. To me it looks and sounds like the dry one. Either way I like
    it!
