I prefer to pay for things with real money rather than get a loan.
    Very, very tempted.

So give in! Your hard-earned money is for spending, innit - so why not
splash out on something that'll give you years of pleasure?

I'm inclined to agree here. You know you like the ZXR400 as a bike, and
you did say you'd like your old one restored to as new. Why not just
buy a new one, this is the last chance you'll get to do it.

A bigger engine might mean you weren't ragging the bike quite as much
as you have to with a 400cc bike.

You obviously haven't met some of the other ukrm midgets who thought
they'd be too small for a 600 until they had the seat and suspension
lowered. It's not a difficult job and would cost less than the dozen
cans of paint required to spray it black.

Didn't Suze (shorter than LN) have her CBR's rear shock modified? How
    much did that cost?

A CBR might be ideal: 600cc, plentiful, cheap to buy and run, plenty of
dead ones in breakers and easily sprayed black.

    However, it is a Honda.

    New ZXR400
Because I have to fund eldest's university education.

'Sorry son, you'll have to pay your own fees, I've blown the uni fund
    on another bike'

    He'd probably forgive me...

Did you go off to fuel at Ashford? Just as I thought the wind was
going to rip my head off I caught up with you.

Pay cash for the bike, get son to take out the full amount of student
loan, then take over his repayments when he needs to make them.

Yes, I slowed down when I realised I was running on fumes and had no
idea where I could fill up. Muddled round Ashford until I found a
    Sainsburys.

The student loan is the cheapest loan available - and he doesn't need
to start repaying it until he crosses the earnings threshold. Neither
does he need to repay it if he returns to education. By the time he
has a PhD he'll be able to afford it easily.

I want to minimise his debt.
Food for thought but I'll not have a regular income to make the
payments with. I want to be working as little as possible after 45.

My plan is to get them both off my hands and through uni then sell the
house, leave the country, go travel for a bit then settle down to a
simple life somewhere warm by the sea with my unread book pile.

I was being sensible(ish) until you fucked orf so I thought WTF, didn't
catch you up in 15 mins and realised you must have gone off for fuel. I
filled in Calais expecting Engerland to be wet and dreary.

Did you join the M25 for Dartford Tunnel etc? what was it like. I realise
now the M25 numbers clockwise from the M20 and the closed section was
    Gatwick bound.

WTF it was nice to catch up with Bear again.
