    exactly.

    Spookily enough, I'm typing this reply on a Fujitsu machine (of which
    we have two in this house)

    heh.

    BTW, I sold my first commercial software (written in 6502 machine
    code) in 1982 when I was 15 or so.

    82, hmm I think we were waiting for our Digital Minc-11 at Doomreay, in it's
    funky portable cart. Oh those Winchester disk drives......
    <thinks>
    Jeez twin RL01 5mb drawers maybe.
    <googles>
    Oh baby, come to Daddeeeee

    It was in it's natural element. A hi-active materials testing lab suite
    collecting data from tensometers and the like.

    Natasha Richardson in her prime getting banged? It had some merit.

    I am rather fond of it. I heard it first from (amazingly!) an
    Australian, a sales guy I used to work with.

    Scarlett Thomas books
    There was freelance prostitution? I think the fact I've remembered the
    homeopathy and not that gives you the answer. Or do you mean the
    prostituting her creativity to big business?
    Read that again towards the end of last year and was disappointed that
    it wasn't as good as I remembered. Obviously a lot of what makes a
    story good is the resonance and last year I wasn't in the head space
    for it.

    Not sure if my favourite is Alias Grace, Handmaid's tale or O & C.
    Plus I'm not sure I've read everything she's done yet. One of the
    advantages of gradually sorting the novels alphabetically by author is
    I can see the gaps I need to fill.

    Much as it galls me to rise to the bait, you're right.

    no, I meant in "The End of Mr.Y" - where she needs money and basically
    agrees to have sex with an ex in exchange for a "loan" of some cash.
    oh - I've only read it once. I tend[1] to only re-read "frothy" books
    i.e. stuff that you can spin through in a day or so. Atwood's works
    are worthy of more appreciation.

    [1] though, for the Nth time, I'm thinking of giving "Briefing for a
    Descent Into Hell" another try.
