Fuel injection balancing

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Whinging Courier, May 13, 2006.

  1. Is there such a thing on a modern bike or is it taken care of by the
    ECU?

I have to get the R1 serviced[1] and want as little as possible done by
the dealer in order to get the stamp for the warranty but as FI is
something that (I guess) needs doing, that can be one job I don't mind
    paying a spanna wanka for.

    [1] Boo-hiss. Fifty quid +VAT a fucking hour. I ask you!

    Cunts.

Yes, though it's throttle balancing. Same job as on a carb bike,
    really.

AFAIK the injectors themselves don't need balancing, any more that
main jets do in a carburetted bike.

If the idle mixture needs adjusting (which I doubt) then that might be
    harder.

The throttle bodies may need balancing, but it's a dead easy job once
you've bought yourself a Carbtune. You should however get the dealer to
check the CO first, & the valve clearances assuming you're not doing
    those yourself.

If you do decide to attempt the balancing, make sure you're absolutely
certain which are the balance adjustment screws. You don't want to be
playing with things like the TPS screws unless you really, really know
    what you're doing.
    Indeed.

Mixture is no probs, just whack a CO meter up the exhaust and adjust as
    required

This drivel is posted courtesy of a rather full bodied Crianza donated by my
Spanish colleagues on last weeks sortie over there :D

It's finding the adjuster that I was thinking of.

On the Guzzi it's simply a screw on the ECU.

I've actually given up on using the CO meter, last time I stuck a
Colortune in and used that, and just made sure it idled reliably.
