Fuel injection's great...

  1. Perfectly fine use for it, to prevent ingress of humidity. It's damn
fine for coating vehicle battery terminals, which is probably its main
use in da street. Properly formed connectors will penetrate the coating
and it doesn't cause a problem.
I have a humungous tub of veterinary petroleum jelly which cost about
4quid for a kilo; comparing that to Vaseline, it's probably a tenth of
    the price - same stuff.

  2. Which had occurred to me as an option, and quickly discarded on cost
grounds. Can you solder /crimp? If so, there's bound to be something in
    RS or CPC catalogues.

indeed - which is why you need nice clean copper nipple-clamps.

Oh, yeah, I can attach connectors to *wires*, no problem. But the
connector on the sensor side is *part* of the sensor, hence the problem
with replacing it, and why my friendly local mechanic suggested cleaning it.

As I've already mentioned, the connector is essentially part of the sensor.
It's not that bad a connector, really; it does look like they've made an
attempt at making it waterproof, just not quite enough.

The other connector (coolant sensor, I think) is more exposed, but
doesn't seem to have suffered at all, which I think may be due to its
orientation which would allow water to drain off rather than pooling
    around the seal.

If the TPS has gone u/s, corrosion isn't going to make
    any difference, is it?

  10. That's a bugger. If the pins (pins on the sensor side?) are gold-plated,
you might be in luck with the fibreglass pen, as mentioned, but don't go
mental on them. If it's sockets on the sensor side, your luck isn't
really in. Also, once you succeed in cleaning them up, try tightening
the grip of the sockets (assuming the sockets are on the cable side).

No, but it's worth seeing if it's the corrosion on the connector that's
causing the problem first, isn't it?

Okay, okay: feel free to say "I told you so" when cleaning the connector
    doesn't work.
