Fuel wise

Hypothetically speaking ..If I cared enough about my '83 Darmah and
payed enough attention to the fuel I was putting in, to say increase
the longevity of the engine; what fuel should I be using? Are valve
    additives worth bothering with?

I've heard PULP would be best but not from Shell. I've heard Mobil
8000 would the best and the valves would love you for it aswell.

I was using ULP in the '81 CX500 and it seemed to be running fine. The
5 litres I put in the Darmah today appeared to run ok, but not sure
about it for sustained, longer term use.

I'd check with a decent Ducati mech, but the one I know uses top end
lube in older Dukes. I think '83 qualifies as "older" in this case.

    Your choices are

1 - use it, and live with the hassle.
2 - get the heads checked and overhauled with new seats if needed
3 - don't use lube, check the clearances every 1000km and if they are
changing rapidly, do 1 or 2.

With fuel type, You are wise to use the highest octane you can. Optimax
doesn't seem to be good in carbed older engines, but conversely Shell
PULP in states that don't have Optimax (WA and SA I think) seems to be
    better than other PULPs.
