I like the use of axle stands.

Which reminds me, do they just vanish because a pair seem to have just
disappeared from my garage. Only got one pair now.

You know why EO end cans are so heavy?

It's because they're made of indestructible metal.

I was chatting to an insurance assessor and he was remarking on the number
of bikes he'd inspected where *every* fairing panel and was smashed, and
anything sticking-out had been bent/broken, yet the EO end cans were in
    *perfect* condition.

He suggested they must have a force-field around them, while I commented it
might have been an anomaly in the space-time continuum [1]

[1] They were in a different space at the time of the accident ;-)

You mean there's a planet somewhere that all of the axle stands go to?

    Blimey.

Odd that, 'cos I've managed to scrap two of them in offs; not scrape-
wear a bloody hole in them.

  12. Amusing, but...

What is it with this laughing thing. To laugh is to lose control. I
think I've been amused enough to lose control probably 3 or 4 times in
    my life.

The daughter of a friend asked her mother the other day (about me)
"doesn't he ever laugh, Mum?" after a bloke made a not very funny
comment and all assembled laughed extremely falsely. Except me of course.

And yes, I do have orgasms.

  13. To laugh is to lose control of what exactly?

    Grimley_Feindish, Sep 25, 2006

  14. Yes it is. To laugh is involuntary. It's a bit like being sick.
Otherwise, tell me what it is.
Maybe, or I just don't feel the need to convulse on hearing something
mildly amusing. I know that you (in common with my mother) have the
ability (need?) to conjure up a belly laugh at the slightest
provocation, and I've always wondered why.

We were together on a train once (Switzerland?) and you laughed at the
fact that my watch was a minute fast.

Saying all that, I seem to be the exception, so maybe you're right. I'll
go and drown my worthless humourless self in the pool.

    That'll be a laugh.

  15. The whole idea of laughter is to lose control. If it's not involuntary
it's forced. I just don't see the point in trying (often unsuccessfully)
to fake an uncontollable physical response for effect.

  18. I don't see anything in the Oxford dictionary definition of "laugh" that
supports your view. I also don't see how it's possible to *lose* control of
a reflex action. Surely it's only possible to exert an unnatural control
over it or fake the reflex completely, either one of which is pretty
    pointless imho?

  19. "reflex action" according to my dictionary = "independent of the will,
caused as automatic response to nerve stimulation". ie; involuntary.

And yes, to fake it is pointless, as I said before.
