How does that work to protect then? Surely if the stuff hardens up when
subjected to a certain level of impulse (ISTR that's the correct term),
won't that energy just be transmitted directly to whatever is behind it?

Well it's not something I'd use to polish a fresh paint job.

I bet my missus wishes she'd been wearing that stuff on her arm in June and
I think I'd rather have it than not too.

Although it looks impressive, I'd like to see how it would react in a
    proper accident.

Am I the only one to spot the orange pad on his crotch and want to see
the reporter smack him in the balls with the shovel?

    I am?

    Oh well...

I should imagine it has no idea whether it's getting twatted by a shovel or
    a lamp post.

I thought the reported was going to deliver a swift kick but he never did,

I'm not a physicist, but if there's a shock (such as coming off a
bike), the forces have to be transferred somewhere. I can't imagine it
being 100% perfect and indeed, it may not work when the forces applied
    go over a certain level.

  20. If it's like the various ballistic cloths I've seen what it does is act
like a thixolitic[1] liquid - if this is so then the force would be
spread out over a large surface area rather than concentrated in one
spot. Which would turn a point or bar impact into a general inpact -
which while being unpleasant - isn't going to be a damaging
    (hopefully!).

[1] Thickens when struck - I can't remember the correct spelling and
    Google isn't being helpful.
