see a man get slapped with a shovel.
How does that work to protect then? Surely if the stuff hardens up when subjected to a certain level of impulse (ISTR that's the correct term), won't that energy just be transmitted directly to whatever is behind it? -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 156 TS 145 2.0 Cloverleaf 156 V6 2.5 S2 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk

I'm not a physicist, but if there's a shock (such as coming off a bike), the forces have to be transferred somewhere. I can't imagine it being 100% perfect and indeed, it may not work when the forces applied go over a certain level.
If it's like the various ballistic cloths I've seen what it does is act like a thixolitic[1] liquid - if this is so then the force would be spread out over a large surface area rather than concentrated in one spot. Which would turn a point or bar impact into a general inpact - which while being unpleasant - isn't going to be a damaging (hopefully!). Phil.
