Garage and insurance

Just acquired a new (used) machine. Insurance company want it garaged at home
as part of the policy. This is a ballache as it means moving the car or bike
out of the way if I want to use whatever's at the back. I used to park the
old one in my paved front garden, tucked away in a corner with disclock and IR
floodlight, and this has been good enough so far[1].

I wonder what the consequences would be in the hypothetical scenario of me
not parking it in the garage, and it getting nicked. Hypothetically, one could
just tell them that it had been in the garage. Couldn't I, er I mean couldn't
    one?

[1] Yes it got nicked but that was parked on the road with no disclock.

Get a less pikey garage. Mine has a 4' wide side door.
One could but one risks being found out and losing one's theft cover. One
might be blacklisted by the insurance industry and struggle to get cover
    again.

This risk didn't stop me telling porkies at my last address with a couple
of bikes that were too wide to fit throught the door of my 8'x6' shed.
Your footnote makes me think that the minor hassle you refer to is worth
it, as you obvioisly live in a dodgy area...

    Not anymore

I think the last few policies I've had have said garaged if at home,
so park it with one of your neighbour.

My policy says something along the lines of "within 0.5 miles of your
home address", so not that neighbourly.

Mine says double the excess (500 rather than 250) if stolen within 250
metres of the insured address. So I am better covered if I park it in
the middle of town than in my drive.

So the question is how best to dry the bike after I've washed it without
leaving it standing in the sun for a while: go for a ride, presumably?

Mine is if it's not garaged, it's not covered within half a mile of
    the house if left overnight.

Why not just go with what your conscience tells you?

That's easy. See my third sentence in the OP.

Don't want to go into too much detail, but it's possible to open our garage
door without too much of a fight.

After reading this and many similar replies, I think I'd better actually
/read/ the policy. I wonder if it's the same as my existing one or if they
are going to send me all-new documents.
