you need to bear in mind that #2 son is only 17, still at school and
his main income is from being a turnstile operator at Spurs. The
little git still has more money in his current account than I do
    though :)
stingey bastard. A couple of 16-packs of Becks cost me about 14 quid
of something - that'll last them a month - it's hardly a big bite out
    of the 400.

actually it's #1 son who's the total lightweight - his younger brother
can suck down beers and ciders like a good'un.

Mine can suck about two pints before he's flat on his back, so he generally
    doesn't bother.

    I like that a lot.

he knows he can't drink without getting drunk, so he doesn't. Which is
    admirable in an alternative universe.

I drank 3 bottles of wine yesterday - that can't be good, can it?

It depends, were any of them in a brown paper bag?

no. I had 3 large glasses of Merlot in a bar over a long lunch, and
then somehow seemed to get through 2 bottles of Chardonnay during the
afternoon/evening, just sitting around talking shit/watching a couple
of episodes of series 4 of The West Wing.

I wasn't even stunningly pissed, though I did manage to shut the 3rd
finger on my right hand in a door, and have a nasty black
blood-blister on it this morning. But the fact I can remember how I
came by this injury is a good sign, right?

It seems like perfect training for a life in local authority land. And
    Brixton.

How does he expect to ever develop the tolerance that allows him to?
    *jealous*

My day currently consists of wake at 10.30am, enter the bunker at noon,
pop upstairs for a last glimpse of daylight (and, usually, rain) after
the second match around 7pm, then back down into the bunker til 1am,
then back to the hotel to sleep.

The bar under my hotel is still open at 1am but by that time I'm so
knackered all I want to do is sleep.

I think I'm starting to dry out, and I don't like it. I don't like it
    one bit.

it's unfathomable to me - I was never like that.
I really can't imagine what you'd be like, sober.

I did it for a while about 9 years ago. And promptly had a nervous
    breakdown. NEVER AGAIN.

having a nervous breakdown in your 20s is pretty much the definition
    of an "early adopter".

Did you ever have an Apple Newton?

well, I'm sober now, so I guess the former.

Think about it - have you ever met him when he didn't seem a bit
    pissed?

    <fx: checks time>

however, it is "beer-o-clock" in 19 minutes ;-)
