Because you are one of those knobs that assumes nobody but you knows
or understands anythign...rather obvious. Oh and it isn't hard to look
up WHICH would be best to use. Though I admit to being lazy and using
water, air or on cold winters days just leaving it out in the -30F to
    -40F air to cool.

What I should have said was "Why am I telling you all this because you claim
    to know everything "

Not trying to be a smart-arse like yourself, but I learned about metal
tempering when I was working in a foundry, not like you who learns anything
through Google or your mates, but then again, you wouldn't really know that
much as you don't have many mates.

I didn't watch the video (I'm at work). Based on the description
saying "spacer" I was assuming that it wasn't in fact a bushing, but a
    SPACER! ;-)

Also, given that most bushings I've encountered whilst working on
suspension componentry are made of something softer than steel
(nolathane, brass, rubber, etc.) I felt pretty safe in that
    assumption.

The exact level of hardness in a steel spacer is unlikely to be a
critical issue, at least in my opinion.

  5. You had better ask Gerry about that

  6. Okay, given that his description as a spacer might not be the correct one
and as you didn't see the video
I will let you off this time.

But, since when has it been that you can't watch videos whil;e supposedly at
    work ??

    Things happen, even in Canberra

Besides, I don't think that the video maker resides in OZ
therefore the pommie interpretation may be altered somewhat

YouTube is blocked by the firewall, along with about 25% of the rest
of the internet. We government employees appear to be the test
bunnies for the Great Firewall of Australia.
What the hey, it gave you something to talk about all day.

  8. I pity you. They don't really think that is going to make a difference
apart from annoy the shit out of legit users?
    Please tell me this . . .

We seem to be heading there though.

Last time I checked it was (mostly) a free world. I didn't think I
needed permission from whichever Facebook $DEITY you are a fan of.

I would get all Nige on you but my Dad brought me up proper.

Here, have some of these for free .....'''' and correct your own post.

I've given years of my life to working on a lathe and the whole idea
of working on one for fun fills me with horror.

Yes, sorry, it's a spacer not a bushing.

And to address the question: why didn't we heat-soften it, then cut
it, then attempt to harden it again to engineering standards that will
allow it to run inside full-complement needle roller bearings under
full suspension load without being quickly destroyed?

Answer:: because we have a lathe, a Dremel, some angle iron and hose
clamps. And I know which way seems easier to me!

Cheers guys, enjoying the discussion, even the peripheral flaming!

Because it's quicker and easier to use the lathe and
a dremel to achieve the same end result?

  19. I don't see where watching porn would or should cause a problem if it is
watched in your home in your own time and not while at work supposedly
    working.
I don't go out of my way to watch porn, but if someone sends me some in an
email, then I will watch it and if I think it is good enough to forward on,
I do, otherwise, I delete it.
People who do watch porn while supposedly working will eventually get caught
out, as the Macquarie Bank employee found .
