So after torturing myself with the PT exercises for the last two days, I could not resist wheeling the NX out of it's spot and just sitting on it in the garage...and of course doing some range of motion exercises with the throttle. I found it easier than I thought , even with my very limited ability to flex my wrist back. Not exactly without some pain but I can see that after they get my bones back in their normal places, that I shouldn't worry that I will "never ride again". ( dam I hate the sound of that ) For a minute there I thought about wheeling the little guy out of the garage and buzzing around the neighborhood...fortunately there were two cars I would've had to move. But tomorrow... -- Jim Stinnett R1100RS YZF R1 NX250 http://moto-rama.com
Yes and no, Jim. Yes and no. About a year and a half ago my roommate tore some ligaments in his knee playing hockey. After surgery to repair the damage, he pushed himself hard through the PT. Against medical advice, went skating a wee bit early. But he was smart: he wore a brace and didn't push himself. When he was cleared to go skating (recreational only) he kind of grinned at his PT... So yes, push yourself to recover faster. But no, don't overdo it. Me, I'm going to get some Overdrive blades for my skates.
Did you make vroom-vroom noises? I understand that they're a very important part of the healing process. -Patti
No, I was on the NX250, so I made "bup bup bup" noises. -- Jim Stinnett VTR1000 R1100RS YZF R1 NX250 http://moto-rama.com
Oh, OK. As long as you particpated fully in the therapy. But you just made me realize something. I have an old Ducati single sitting in my loft right now. I have no idea what noises I should make if I sit on it! -Patti
Give it more time, Jim. Before you know it, you'll be riding again. It's not just something you give up on after ALL those years of leaning from side to side in the open air. I've cut way back since my deer accident but still manage to get 100 miles in at least every other weekend. Back in May & part of June the bike was being worked over cosmetically (several drops due to bad stops with prosthetic leg) and it was then I realized I wasn't just going to quit riding. Now tires last over a year instead of three sets a year. Bob Nixon, Chandler AZ 01 Sprint ST "RED" 54K miles http://bigrex.net/pictures
(Patti Beadles) wrote in @blue.rahul.net: none, those old singles are hooey. nothing but trouble. of course, for a small fee, I'd be happy to rid you of that trouble. the noise you make is "thump thump thump"
Thanks, but I've got it under control. She's actually in pieces in my loft right now... she was a barn find. My goal is to do a cosmetic restoration and turn her into an art piece for my living room. I've always wanted an old non-running bike to do that with, and one fell in my lap a few weeks ago. Thanks. I figured it was something like that. Or maybe "Thump thump thump. Thud. Shit" ? -Patti
But Bob, believe it or not you are an icon, an insperation. Your recovery is a amazing. So many of us can learn so much from your experience. I am proud of my recovery from multiple shoulder injuries while skiing, but I stand in awe of your ordeal. I hope you can take the time to record your story (all of it, not just the crash) your kids and grandkids will cherish your words. And Jim, thanks for keeping us posted. I am glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. Bryan
Thanks!Today I am certanily feeling the effects of my PT sessions of the last few days, plus work has been a MF. And then//// And....We just had an earthquake, to keep it in perspective. -- Jim Stinnett VTR1000 R1100RS YZF R1 NX250 http://moto-rama.com
ain't THAT the truth. whew. Bob is STILL kicking ass! he is an inspiration to the locals... and the story amazes EVERY time it is told. Bob.. is a Legend around here.
Argh. Hang in there... I felt that one in SF: A slight but distinctive east-west shaking lasting just a few seconds. Nothing toppled here.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Thanks, Deb, Bryan, Jim & others. All I did was stay alive then recover (mostly anyway) when the odds said differently. No doubt many here would have done the same but I'm glad you' all never had to find out the hard way-. Bob Nixon, Chandler AZ 01 Sprint ST "RED" 54K miles http://bigrex.net/pictures
Mine went, "hrrrnnnnnnnnn....nrrrrrnnnnnnn....nrrrrrnnnnnnnn...." Not unlike a 4 stroke lawn mower, but still, what a bike! Sigh....I might've seen it parked outside the sportfishing landing a few months ago. There can't be that many of them around. -- -- Spidergraham Chaplain, ARSCC "Comparing Scientology to a motorcycle gang is a gross, unpardonable insult to bikers everywhere. I am working on a whole new site, so all those 404s will be gone in a few weeks. -- Jim Stinnett VTR1000 R1100RS YZF R1 NX250 http://moto-rama.com
Ooooh, that's something I want to do as soon as my shoulder is up to it. Bob, if you have time, you might want to pipe in on rec.motorcycles with your expert advice about deer experiences. They have a few threads going there and could really, really use you.
