Well the Yanks have managed to get the flying version working, somewhat,
at ridiculous expense.

UKAEA developed Kw class CO2 lasers to cut PE16 fuel wrappers and we
developed it on to dissect MTR assemblies, with nitrogen cooled optics
systems for long duty cycles. It greatly reduced the accumulation of
radioactive debris compared to mechanical hacksaws and angle grinders.
