What, like you have someone else to read and compile all your emails ?

Neat ! I might suggest that here.

Wot t'others said. It's ten Euros a year now, IIRC.
But you could try the one I'm using - motzarella.org. Free and I've
been using it for a few months now without any noticeable problems.

If you're after pikey news swervers, news.sunsite.dk is free (but
    requires registration).

Of course, if you want *real* reliability, you run your own swerver
which connects to multiple public servers...

So does motzarella. The only problem I've had is when there have been too
many peer connections, and it told me to come back later. Probably mostly
    UKRM.

yes, I do recall. I'm considering Lake Garda for our family holiday in
the last week of July - any hotels etc. you can recommend?
I know M-V is a white wine, I was thinking off Macon Superior at the
time (I think - a combination of Morgan's spiced rum and Pinot Grigio
last night led to not entirely coherant thinking).
yes, I've had that - it's very nice.

Lake Garda can be split into three distinct areas for touristic purposes.

The southern & SE (Sirmione, Bardolino) are very busy at times, being close
to Verona airport and the A4 autostrada. You'll find places like Gardaland
and huge campsites full of Germans in this area. Also the best region for
wine with DOCG Bardolino & nearby Recioto di Soave.

The northern and NE resorts (Malcesine round to Riva) are quieter and tend
to be a little more upmarket. Watersports are very popular. I found it
fascinating watching the windsurfers from the "beach" in Torbole. By late
afternoon the winds get up to some very fast speeds.

Lastly, the western side is much, much quieter. Villages are small and
often perched on very high cliffs with panoramic views across the lake.
Much of the shoreline road is carved in tunnels in the cliffs (there's even
a major intersection inside one of the tunnels).

I'm arriving at Verona airport and hiring a Fiat Panda (just 2 of us). I'm
trying the western side this time. Limone. However, I will be using the
boat "buses" and car to visit other places.

Based on the little I know about your family I would suggest Malcesine.
Plenty of watersports and it's a major hub in the aquatic public transport
network. A huge mountain with a cable car ride. Not too far from the
McResorts in the south if the kids want rollercoasters. I have only visited
the town but that faux yank, Blaney, has been to the place and probably
    knows of somewhere obscenely expensive.

If you confirm which of the three types of area you fancy then I'll check
my bookmarks: I've always intended on revisiting the area so have kept tabs
    on recommendations from fellow travellers.

I've been to Malcesine, albeit a number of years ago, well, ok, 20
    years ago.

it counts as one of my favourite holidays.
