Apparently. There are a lot of conspiracy theories around about
Germany and Japan at the end of the War, few of them proven. How about
    some facts?

Tell you what, rather than spending your time googling, why don't
you tell us why Hitler, *if* he had the ability, would use a dirty
bomb on New York rather than London, Moscow, or a military target?
This was the guts of your initial statement, front up.

What a silly thing to say.

Are you now claiming there *was* radioactive medical waste in 1945?
If so, you've gone off the reservation and I probably have been
    trolled...

The nukes were symbolic heavy bombing: the firebombing of Tokyo killed
far more people. The `conventional' bombing of Vietnam was far worse
than the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings.

    Well indeedy. History lesson here
    http://www.cna.ca/curriculum/cna_nu...lt-60 Therapy Unit&pid=Cobalt-60 Therapy Unit

Radium was being used for medical imaging from the 1890's and could be
called waste and famously the first instance of Radiotherapy was by Emil
Grubbe on a breast cancer in <googles> 1897 but that was using tubes of
    Radon gas.

  6. All very well Zwei Hunde, but let's step back even further...are you
really implying that it wasn't in the US's best interests to fight the
war on the side of the Allies, or do you toe the line that they (US)
"bailed us out", presumably just because they were being nice? What do
you say to the argument that during the period in which the US was not
actively participating, the UK and its allies fought alone and could
therefore be considered to have bailed the US out?

Not defending the US war effort at all, Tricky Dicky. Just
questioning the OP's assertion that the US was all about saving itself
in Europe from a dirty nuke that Hitler almost ready and earmarked for
New York via a super plane. I like fantasy as much as the next man,
    but really....

Anyway, shouldn't you be down in Galveston with a pool skimmer?

Exactly, so your opinion doesn't count.

Now if you would please set a good example to others who know sweet ****
all about the subject adjust your replies to this thread to reflect your
total lack of knowledge on this subject I am sure all The Experts will
    be
    much happier.

After all, imagine how it must be for them. There they all are, each
    and
every one of them full of first hand knowledge and experience about
    every
subject under the sun and along comes the likes of you and with a flick
    of
your quiff you take from them the only thing they have to maintain their
    self esteem.

  9. Fair enuff. Although I must tell you he might be on to something. I
have an old "Sgt Fury and his howling commandos" comic which clearly
shows an evil super-plane created no doubt by the lights of perverted
nazi science, piloted by a hapless gerry swine being foiled by a
solid, earnest british hero in the "Sky Captain" stylee.
Poor old Galveston. Never exactly a paradise at the best of times, it
looked even more forlorn when I was there a few weeks ago for the
first time since Hurricane Ike. The place still hasn't recovered
properly, and had a depressing run-down feel to it. If that wicked,
imperialistic British oil comes its way, it'll be the last straw i
    would imagine.

If you lot didn't insist on running gas guzzling cars and having your
air conditioning on 24/7 there wouldn't be a need to rape the Gulf of
Mexico of all its natural resources.

Anyway, if we're honest about it, Fourchon will be improved by a few
million barrels of oil washing up around the dock area. I've crew
changed out of both Fourchon and Venice when I've worked in the Gulf
    and they were shit holes.

    <very deep sigh>

The comments were about whether the US considered it to be a war, not what I
    think.

Johnson certainly insisted America was not at war with NV for the period up
to the Tet offensive. Indeed looking it up since Congress never declared a
state of war. It was a "Police Action".

My only observation was that the Yanks never went all in to make sure they
would win. I suppose that would have required a declaration of war for a
    start ;o)

You need to read again what you posted because I'm sure you called it
    a badly misjudged side show.
I'm sure I can find a lot more references to the Vietnam _War_ than
you can to the Vietnam _Police Action_ but I'll be more than happy to
admit I'm wrong if you provide evidence to prove otherwise.

I'm not really worried about the motives but to try and deny that it
    was a war is pathetic.

I didn't say you denied it was a war; Hog's the one who thinks it was
    a police action.
I really meant I didn't want to discuss the motives (because I don't
understand them) so I should have made myself clearer.
Blimey, I didn't realise thatcher bombed Vietnam. I've no doubt she'd
have had us there if she was in power at the time but even in my most
anti thatcher moments I wouldn't have accused her of actually being
    involved.
You should go to Auschwitz and see it for yourself and once you've
done the theme park go to Birkenau (it's only 10 minutes up the road)
for the full on experience of how badly human beings can behave.
Cross posting is fun for about 5 days and then it wears off.

  20. The irony was, Uncle Ho wasn't really all that interested in being a
Commie - he just took what help he could get in kicking the Frogs out,
then the Septics, but by that time it kind of ran away with itself.
As far as the vast majority of Vietnamese were concerned, they just
wanted their country back and the 20th Century interlopers were just
another set of foreigners trying to take their country away from them -
    the Chinese had tried it before and got their arses kicked eventually;
    several times.
