I got a call from a mate last night. As far as he can tell, his Harley
    has holed a piston.

He's discovered that his recovery cover is not as extensive as he
    thought it was.

So he has a broken Harley that would be expensive to fix, no breakdown
or recovery cover and he's about 70 miles south or Paris.

Anyone know if there is a cheap way of getting it towed or trailered to
    the ferry port?

Anyone near Vierzon or Orleans with a rope?

That looks like the best option.

Eurotunnel do good deals if you go out in the afternoon, and back before
midnight. Gives you time to do a booze run at the same time. ;^)

Rather than a van we're taking a bike trailer; it's cheaper to get a tow
bar fitted to my car than it is to hire a van and this way I end up with
a tow bar fitted to my car. And (relative) comfort and air con

The bike's actually slightly south of Vierzon, but I'm going via Le
Havre. The AA reckon 357 km which isn't too bad. I won't be in a hurry.

The AA says 3.5 hours each way and I have 15 hours between getting off
of the ferry and getting back on it again
Thanks for the offer Des, but I think we should be OK. When he realised
there was an outing in the offing my father invited himself along so 3
of us should be able to get the bike on the trailer without too much of
    a problem.

If you simply fancy a ride out we should be at the camping municipal in
Vierzon at about 11.30-12.00. Look for a dejected chap called Andy
that's never heard of a chap called Gyp.

Don't worry, as I'm now home again and I didn't see you I'll take it as
    a no.
