Getting closer to a twin...

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by JustinCredible, May 6, 2006.

  1. OK, I have to concede that a TL1000s is going to be too high in the $$.
Even the first 97 models seem to be holding up around the $7k mark.
So what does that leave? A quick visit to Pro Honda this morning
showed that the VTR is still up there too. Then I dropped into
Moorooka Yam and the guy started the hard sell on a TRX850. Personally
I don't really go for the looks much but I guess I could get over that.
So what's the collective opinion of TRX's and are there any inherant
problems I should look out for?

    Justin.

They've become a cult bike. They're reliable, albeit drinking a little
oil over time (don't worry unless it goes more than 500ml between
changes). Get a set of blue spot calipers. Slide the forks through or
get a set of longer dogbones to improve the brakes and handling.

Google TRX on ausmoto, I've rabbitted on about them at great length. I
seriously keep thinking about buying another one (despite already having
    an excellent twin)

Did you check out the one located at Gladstone Park see bikesales.com.au.
He's asking $7k, but don't know for sure if it's the same one, but I recall
one for sale around that area months ago, when i put my mate onto the one he
    got for < $6k
Notice that the one at G.P. has got a few handy extras, and he says he is
negotiable... how good a negotiator are you?
Also, you might like to check the linkout that I included in a response to
the current VTR enquiry. Don't know how much he wants for that VTR.....

One that causes people to sink large amounts of money into them,
regardless of the irrationality of doing so.

    Just like a cult.

ive seen a few mostly in europe and japan (where they are pretty popular) ,
subject to the usual things - single sides swing arms, street fighted etc
    etc

but a few aussie trx were bombed out (mostly in qld???) with hot motors -
cams, 878cc kit, flatslides, pipes to get up around/over 100hp at the rear
wheel vs about 75hp stock .....
