That's a bonus though, see. That means that you have to live longer,
    just to maintain the average.

I was chatting about this with one of our Consultants the other day.
She reckons the Shipman legacy has a few years to run yet, and in the
meantime her colleagues simply don't dare prescribe what they'd like
    to prescribe.

  3. I'd have liked to have Shipman as my GP; none of this wishy-washy
emotional life-preserving bollocks, just convince the bugger you've left
him a wedge when you're ready to go and job done.

It sounds like a great deal of the anodyne but ultimately meaningless
thinking that populates any of the mainstream political parties.

    Book you may find interesting:

Interesting parallels can be drawn here too

Um, you've lost me here, I'm afraid. Guy Fawkes is the character who
leads this fantasy life in which he claims to have fettled CB750s at
the age of nine, or something, right? And Burnt has caused no end of
amusement in tying him up about it....

    So no, I don't. What's your point?

I wouldn't disagree or agree, because I know absolutely nothing about
her specialist area, so probably wisest not to express an opinion on it
    at all.

Ah, right. Slow morning today, I'm afraid.

Well, my main point was it just reminded me of this bloody silly New
Labour campaign - oh, see Sweller's posting, as his political antennae
    picked up the point.

I tend to respect most people's postings on certain points: generally,
something they really, really know a lot about, or when they make an
incisive and relevant point, even if I don't agree with them.

Actually Sweller is a classic case in point. I don't agree with (some
of) his political points but by Christ, I'm not going to get in an
argument over them, because he'd tie me in knots. (Sorry to deprive you
    of sport, there, Sweller.....)

And I definitely don't respect people who tell barefaced porkies here
and do everything they can to avoid admitting that they did, Guy Fawkes
    being a classic case.

Fair enough, again. Well, actually, I hadn't noticed the 'hormonal' etc
    tone, no.

A couple of years ago my sister died of cancer. When the end came she
was lucky enough to be admitted to a specialist unit. She went from
being well enough to go to a concert, to so ill we were told she could
not be transferred to a hospice in just a few days. She was given some
kind of IV device on which the dose could be dialled up as the pain
became unbearable. At the very end she was moved in to a room of her
own and (so far as I could tell) drifted away free of pain and obvious
    distress.

As I said, she was lucky, this is the standard of care we should all be
entitled to if we desire it.

I think it's fair to say that if I lived as if it were my last day on
Earth, I'd lie in until at least the afternoon on the following day.

Well, it takes all sorts to make a world. I had in mind a "no excuses,
no procrastination" attitude, I wouldn't use imminent death as a "get
out of this world free" excuse. If it's worth doing, do it. If not
    forget it and move on.
